A Cozy Winter Friday in the Highlands 🍂🔥

There is something truly special about slowing down and sharing simple moments with the people who matter most. L’Arche is so much more than just a place to live—it is a vibrant community rooted in authentic relationships, shared laughter, and everyday magic.
Whether it is gathering around a warm fire pit on a crisp afternoon, sharing hot apple juice, reading a favorite book, or simply enjoying the company of good friends and furry companions, life here is about celebrating the beauty of human connection. It’s about creating a welcoming space where everyone belongs, where joy is found in the little things, and where every day brings a new reason to smile.

Henri Nouwen, Dutch Catholic Priest, and L'Arche Daybreak Community Member published many books informed by his life in L'Arche. Nouwen, who died 30 years ago to this day, resigned as a professor of the Divinity School in Harvard in order to join L'Arche in 1986. He is buried alongside core members in Richmond Hill, ONT, which is fitting as he said in an interview:

"I choose L’Arche; L’Arche chooses me. I would be dead if I weren’t here. I need people to love me and care for me."
