A 61 year old man came to see me complaining of pain in his low back and thigh for the past 18 years. This really impacted his life, he couldn’t do any gardening without having really bad pain for several days after. He had tried physio, massage, acupuncture and also a chiropractor. After case history I examined him and found he had very tight muscles low back and hips, reduced movement in joints of low back, also due imbalance of muscles one leg appeared longer than the other.
I worked on his muscles with soft tissue massage low back and legs. Then articulation of low back.
He reported to me. ‘ Back feels SO much better now. Better movement, quicker recovery, better sleep - I'm now able to do things I thought I'd never be able to do again’

Here is another example of what an osteopath does

Philippa (44)
Philippa came to see me with pain at base of her neck, which started 2 weeks ago. Pain then spread to her left shoulder and arm and down to her hand. She also had pins and needles in the back of her hand.

When I took her full history I found she had been reaching into a cupboard at an awkward angle a few days before the pain started. Her job involves a lot of standing with her arms being used all the time and she had suffered from a sore neck and shoulders before but never into her arm. On examining her I found her neck and shoulder muscles on her left side were very tight and she had pain on bending her head down. She also found it difficult to move her left arm, she could only lift it as high as her shoulder and it was very painful. She had reduced movement in the joints at the base of her neck. I explained to her we had to work on her muscles to make them less tight and I also got her to put an ice pack at the base of her neck to reduce inflammation.

Philippa had 3 treatments and with the pain in her arm reduced by the 2nd treatment. By the last treatment she was fine with no pain in her arm, no numbness in her hand and full movement of her neck and arm.

I am sure many people don't know or understand what an osteopath does, so I thought I'd give a few examples of the people I have treated.
A 64 year old female came to see me with pain her knee. which she had had about a year and it was really impacting her life, especially walking. After taking her case history I examined her knee and found that she has muscle imbalance around her knee which led to it not working properly, also causing strain in her back.
I treated her with soft tissue massage, articulation of her knee and her foot, and after 3 sessions she was Symptom free and delighted
