“Why would a blind person even go to a fireworks display?” 🎆

Vippy has a few thoughts. Bonfire Night isn’t a silent film. There’s the whoosh and crackle of the rockets, the heat of the bonfire on your face, and a toffee apple that welds your teeth together. For lots of blind people, the sky’s the least of it.

And if you’re setting off rockets at midnight, spare a thought for the guide dogs. They’ve got work in the morning. 🐕‍🦺

Happy Bonfire Night! What should Vippy answer next? Drop your question below. 💬

[Video description: Vippy, a 3D animated white cane with big cartoon eyes and white gloves, hosts a glowing talk show under a gold “Who is VIP?” marquee sign as jazz plays and an audience cheers. He reads a comment asking why a blind person would go to a fireworks display, gives the camera a deadpan stare, then explains. Scenes show a blind woman in dark glasses smiling up at fireworks in a park, Vippy conducting the fireworks like an orchestra, a blind man warming his hands at a bonfire, and a blind woman laughing with her teeth stuck in a toffee apple. In a calm living room, a blind man strokes his guide dog while fireworks flash outside. Vippy recites with a lit sparkler, then points at the viewer and winks as the audience applauds.]

She’s got places to be. You’ve got a car. 🚗🎶

We’re looking for volunteer drivers in Milton Keynes for short local trips: GP appointments, the weekly shop, a night out. You pick up a visually impaired passenger from their door, get them there, and probably end up with a duet partner.

We sort the Enhanced DBS check, licence verification and sight-loss awareness training. You bring the playlist.

Video description: It’s night. In the passenger seat of a car, an older woman in dark sunglasses, a cream cardigan and a red patterned scarf is singing along with her whole chest, her white cane resting beside her. Cut to the driver, a man in a dark suit, singing just as loudly and grinning. The black car glides through the lit-up city centre. Then the two of them walk arm in arm along a busy, neon-lit street, her cane in her other hand, both laughing. On-screen text reads: “POV: you volunteered to drive her to the GP and she knows every word.” A voiceover invites people in Milton Keynes to volunteer as drivers with Travel Hands.

Lunch at 1pm. Friends waiting. Then the pavement happens

Wheelie bins left out, e-scooters dumped mid-path, A-boards, cones… For someone with a visual impairment, a 10-minute walk can turn into an obstacle course. The problem is the street, not the person.

That’s where our volunteer guides come in. A trained sighted volunteer walks alongside, helps through the busy bits, and you get where you’re going on your terms. Lunch: sorted ☕

Help more Londoners get out and about, with confidence.

This ghost picked the wrong house 👻

Fridge ambush? She was busy checking the milk.
Cupboard jump scare? She just needed the sweets.

Turns out a jump scare only works if you see it coming, and she had trick-or-treaters waiting at the door.

Blind and visually impaired people find their way around homes, streets and stations every day with skill, routine and plenty of confidence. The ghost never stood a chance.

At Travel Hands, we connect visually impaired people with trained volunteers for journeys out and about, because getting around should be about where you’re going, not what’s in the way.

👉 Tag a friend who’d walk straight past a ghost too

If horror movies had a blind lead, half the jump scares wouldn’t land 👻

Visually impaired people rarely get to be the lead in film, let alone the one who comes out on top. We think that should change.

Happy Halloween from Travel Hands 🎃

“You’d make a great Uber driver for blind people.” 🚶‍♂️

A friend’s joke on a busy London street became Travel Hands. Today, we match blind and partially sighted people with trained local volunteers, for work, appointments, catching up with friends, or anywhere else they’re headed.

1,500+ journeys later, the idea hasn’t changed: they know where they’re going. We walk alongside.

Every donation helps train the next volunteer and fund the next journey. 💛

Many punters say the inconvenience of bus rerouting is a small price to pay for more space – but not everyone is happy

28/10/2026

You had a lot to say about the new traffic-free Oxford Street, so Vippy’s answering some of your comments.

Some of you asked for no bikes. Others wondered how people who can’t walk long distances will get along it, or whether small vehicles could help. Different views, but they come down to the same thing: a street where everyone can get around safely, at their own pace.

Here’s where things stand:

• Bikes, e-scooters and pedicabs are banned from the traffic-free stretch, along with buses and taxis.
• Bus routes now stop on nearby side streets, roughly 100–200m from Oxford Street.
• TfL says it is looking into a shopmobility service for people who’d rather not walk the whole way.
• Paving, trees and more than 100 new seats are planned for next year.
• The final design is still being decided, so there’s time to share what would work for you.

Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation. Keep it coming in the comments.
