“Why didn’t my oncologist talk to me about diet?” It’s one of the questions we hear most often, and it’s a fair one 💚

The answer is simple: nutrition isn’t your oncologist’s specialism. Their role is to treat your cancer, and that’s exactly what they’re trained to do. Nutrition is the specialism of a dietitian.

Nutrition should never be an afterthought during cancer. It’s just a different department!

Cancer nutrition doesn’t need to be this complicated 💚

If you feel like you need a rulebook just to eat during treatment, you’re not alone, and it’s not your fault. There’s so much conflicting advice out there. Here’s what actually matters most:

1. Eating enough
Getting enough energy and protein helps you hold on to weight and muscle, which can make treatment easier to get through. If your appetite is low, small and often counts.

2. Quality
Once you’re eating enough, focus on plants, wholegrains, fruit, veg and fibre, as best you can around any side effects.

3. No extreme diets needed
Approaches like keto and fasting are being researched, but there isn’t strong enough evidence to recommend them during treatment.

Diet matters, but it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Save this as a reminder, and share it with someone who’s feeling overwhelmed by food advice.

Told your iron results are “normal”, but still feeling wiped out? Swipe to find out why that might not be the whole story 👉

If you have cancer, inflammation can push your ferritin levels up, which can hide low iron stores. New guidance from the American Society of Hematology now recognises this, with a higher cutoff for diagnosing iron deficiency in people with cancer.

So if you’re still feeling tired, cold or breathless t’s worth asking your GP whether your ferritin and transferrin saturation have been checked, and whether inflammation has been taken into account.

Low iron and treatment side effects can be a tricky mix. If you’d like personalised support with your nutrition, comment “CONSULT” and I’ll send you the details!

New iron deficiency guidance has just been released, and it could change how your results are read.

Iron deficiency is one of the most common health conditions worldwide, yet it’s often missed. Many people live with symptoms like tiredness, weakness, dizziness or brain fog for months, even years, before they’re diagnosed.

The new international guidance raises the cutoffs for diagnosing iron deficiency. So if you’ve been told your iron is “fine”, it might be worth another conversation with your GP.

You may be more at risk if you have heavy periods, are pregnant, follow a restricted diet, have a gut condition, or live with a long-term condition like cancer.

📌 Save this for your next blood test, and share it with anyone who might find it useful.

Want personalised support on boosting your iron levels? Comment “CONSULT” and we’ll send you the details!

Unfollow the podcast imo!

So much misinformation that it hurts my head.

Sure there's some interesting research but for many people, just getting through treatment is enough of a struggle without them thinking they need to be following a really restrictive diet.

Like this post so it gets shown to more people who need to hear what I'm saying x

Kiwi is well evidenced to help with constipation.

Studies show 2 a day can help keep things moving, and green or golden, skin on or off, all count! 🥝

Not sleeping well? Try it before bed and it may may improve sleep quality and quantity 😴
