One Sunday habit that sorts your gut, your time and your food bill.

Cambridge researchers surveyed 1,319 adults: around 43% of people spending under an hour a day on food prep ate fast food weekly, compared to just over 30% of those spending two hours or more.
Separate research on French adults linked meal planning to better diet quality, more food variety and lower odds of obesity.
And the American Gut Project found people eating 30+ different plant foods a week had significantly more diverse microbiomes than those eating 10 or fewer. Batch cooking is what makes that variety realistic on a normal week.
My formula: one batch-cooked grain, one batch-cooked protein, 2-3 roasted veg, mixed differently across the week. Freeze half for the days you've got nothing left.
Do you batch cook, or wing it day to day? Tell me below.

5 cheap superfoods hiding in plain sight, no exotic berries or £15 powders required.
Research on nutrient density per cost consistently shows some of the cheapest supermarket staples are among the most nutritious foods available.
Lentils have been linked to significantly lower cholesterol in published research. Oats' soluble fibre supports both cholesterol and gut health. Sardines deliver omega-3s linked to heart and brain health, plus a calcium boost from the bones. Eggs remain one of the best value complete proteins around. And frozen berries retain nearly identical nutrients to fresh, at a fraction of the cost.
You don't need marketing hyped "superfoods". The basics aisle is more powerful than people think.
Which of these is already in your kitchen? Tell me below.

Ready meals aren't actually cheaper than cooking. The data says otherwise.

A UK study comparing 54 ready meals with their home-cooked equivalents found the ready meals cost significantly more overall, and contained significantly more free sugar.

Yet UK survey data shows almost 1 in 5 Britons are eating more processed food because it feels cheaper. That's usually about time and energy, not the price itself.

My holistic approach for families isn't perfect cooking every night. It's three repeatable meals: one-tray dinners, big-batch stews that stretch across the week, and build-your-own bowls everyone can customise.

Real food, minimal stress, budget friendly.

What's your family's go-to easy meal? Tell me below.

Is healthy eating actually expensive? UK research says it's complicated. 💷

The Institute of Economic Affairs compared supermarket prices in 2016 and found that, measured by edible weight, healthy food tends to be cheaper than less healthy food. Fruit, veg and starchy carbs for £2 or less per kilo, while ready-meals, crisps and chocolate sat at £3 or more. Their headline: 5-a-day for as little as 30p.

Measure per calorie and it flips. The Food Foundation reported healthy food at £8.51 per 1,000 kcal versus £3.25 for less healthy food. Both figures are real. The difference is the ruler, not the food.

Frozen vegetables and pulses stay cheap and nutrient-dense either way. That's where your money works hardest.

Caffeine blocks adenosine, the chemical that signals tiredness. It doesn't remove fatigue, it just delays the bill.

Researchers describe a caffeine sleep spiral: less sleep, more caffeine, lighter sleep, more caffeine again tomorrow.

A review in Nutrients using sleep EEG across 32 studies found caffeine suppresses slow wave activity, the marker of deep restorative sleep, even when total sleep duration looks fine. A separate meta-analysis of 24 controlled studies found total sleep time dropped by about 45 minutes, sleep efficiency by 7%, and deep sleep by about 11 minutes.

With a half-life of roughly 5 to 6 hours, a 3pm coffee can still have around 100mg in your system by 9pm.

Caffeine isn't the enemy. It can just be quietly funding the exact tiredness you're drinking it to fight.

Try shifting your last cup before midday for two weeks and watch your next-day energy.

Do you notice a difference when you cut caffeine earlier? Tell me below.

My exact morning routine for all-day energy, as a holistic nutritionist. ☀️

Matcha instead of coffee for steady energy. Fruit early for natural fibre and vitamins. Movement every morning: a 2019 study in The Journal of Physiology found exercising at 7am shifted the body clock earlier, and a Brigham Young University study found 45 minutes of brisk morning walking reduced participants' neural response to food images later on.

Water throughout the day, not just when I remember. Research in the Journal of Nutrition found even mild dehydration degraded mood and concentration.

Then meals built around whole, nutrient-dense food. No fast food, no ultra-processed options. Not restriction, just how I feel best.

What's the first thing you do in your morning? Tell me below 👇

5 "healthy" foods that quietly spike blood sugar.

On the glycemic index, low is 55 or below and high is 70 or above. Watermelon lands around 76, instant oats around 79 (steel-cut sits near 53), white rice around 73, corn flakes around 81, white bread around 75.

Watermelon is the fair exception: high GI, but low glycemic load per serving, so the real-world impact is modest.

None of this means cutting these out. Pairing higher-GI carbs with protein, fibre or fat slows digestion and blunts the spike. Less processing helps too.

Which one surprised you most?

Sugar cravings aren't weakness. They're biology. 🧠

Research from the Max Planck Institute found dopamine is released in your brain within moments of eating sugar, before it even reaches your stomach.

The same team, with Yale University, ran an 8 week study where participants eating a daily high-fat, high-sugar dessert showed an increased brain reward response to sugary food.

Add blood sugar swings, poor sleep and stress, and it's clear this isn't a willpower problem.

The fix isn't restriction (which often backfires). It's steady blood sugar, good sleep and stress management.

Part 1 covered why you look six months pregnant by 7pm. Here's what the research says actually helps.

Peppermint oil has the best data: a 4-week trial in 72 people with IBS showed a 40% drop in total symptom score versus 24.3% on placebo. Use enteric-coated capsules, and skip it if you get reflux. Evidence isn't unanimous, but it's the strongest natural option on the list.

Ginger speeds up stomach emptying (1,200 mg halved gastric half-emptying time in one trial), though symptom scores didn't change. Probiotics are strain-specific and need 4 to 8 weeks, and the AGA currently advises against them for bloating.

The free stuff still matters most: chew slowly, walk after meals, drink enough water.

If bloating is severe, persistent, or comes with pain or weight changes, get it checked properly.

What's your go-to bloating fix?
