Movember is here, and we love what it stands for.

It started with a group of mates in Australia in 2003 and grew into a global movement for men’s health, including mental health and su***de prevention.

Here’s our twist this month: if you’re going to check your body, check in on your head too.

How’s your sleep? Your mood? Are you still seeing your mates, or have you drifted?

And if you’re growing a tache, let it start a conversation.

Someone will ask what it’s for. That’s your opening.

Nobody tells you how heavy it gets.

The bills. The Christmas pressure creeping closer. The nights you do the sums in your head instead of sleeping.

For a lot of men, money isn’t just money. It’s whether they feel they’re doing their job as a provider. So when it gets tight, it feels personal.

It isn’t. Here’s what helps:

Look at it. Avoiding the post makes it bigger. Opening it makes it smaller.

Tell one person. A partner, a mate, someone you trust.
Get free, independent advice. MoneyHelper and StepChange both offer free help with debt and budgeting. Using them is not failure. It’s the sensible move.

Your worth is not your bank balance.

Samaritans: 116 123, free, 24/7, no judgement.

October is nearly done.

What a month it’s been. Walk & Talk. World Mental Health Day. Clocks back. Season turning.

November is coming, and with it, the time of year that can quietly become one of the hardest for men.

The long dark stretch before Christmas. The financial pressure building. The year drawing to a close and the mental stocktake that comes with it.

We’ll be here through all of it. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, every week.

And in December, we’ve got something special planned.

Saturday 12th December.

A Christmas family concert. Details coming very soon.
Save the date now. Tell the family. This one is for everyone.

More details dropping in November. Watch this space.

The clocks went back. Winter is coming.

For a lot of men, the next few months are the hardest. Here’s what actually works to get through them:

1. Anchor your mornings, get up at the same time. Even when it’s dark. Especially when it’s dark. Routine is armour.

2. Get outside before midday, natural light, even grey British daylight, resets your serotonin. Make it non-negotiable.

3. Move your body three times a week, not for aesthetics. For your brain. The research is unambiguous.

4. Plan things to look forward to, winter can feel like a long empty stretch. Put things in the diary. Small things count.

5. Stay connected, the winter drift is real. Keep the calls, the walks, the meetups going even when it’s tempting to hibernate.

6. Talk about it early, don’t wait until you’re on your knees. If the season is getting to you, say so now.
You can do winter well. It just takes intention.

We’ve talked before about anger being the emotion men are given permission to feel.

But what do you actually do with it when it shows up?
Here are five things that work, backed by research and real life,

1. Move it through your body, anger is physical energy. Running, lifting, punching a bag, a hard walk. Get it out physically before you try to process it mentally.

2. Name what’s underneath it, anger is almost always a secondary emotion. What’s the primary one? Fear?
Shame? Hurt? Finding the root changes everything.

3. Delay the response, you don’t have to reply in the moment. “I need to think about this” is a complete sentence. Use it.

4. Write it down, not to send. Just to get it out of your head. The act of writing defuses the charge.

5. Talk to someone, not about the anger itself necessarily, but about what’s been building up. The anger is often a pressure valve for everything else.
Anger is information. Learn to read it.

Every month, men show up to these walks who’ve never done anything like it before. They walk. They talk, or don’t. And they leave feeling a little less alone than when they arrived.

If you’ve been thinking about coming, this is your month.

Bring a mate if you want to. Come alone if you prefer. Both are completely fine.

See you on the 25th.

Samaritans: 116 123 — free, 24/7, if the wait until Sunday feels too long.

A lot of men build their entire identity around what they do.

Provider. Dad. Worker. The strong one. The one who holds it together.

And those things matter. They’re real. They’re part of who you are.

But they’re not all of who you are.
When those roles get threatened, redundancy, divorce, kids growing up, retirement, illness, men often find themselves not just in a difficult situation, but in a full blown identity crisis.

Because if you’ve only ever been defined by what you do, losing what you do can feel like losing yourself.
So here’s a question worth sitting with,

Who are you when no one needs anything from you?
Not a role. Not a function. Just you.
If you don’t know the answer, that’s worth exploring.

Walk & Talk is a good place to start.

Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day.

Every year we’re asked to talk about mental health. To check in. To break the stigma.

And every year, men are the group least likely to do it.

Not because they don’t struggle. The statistics are clear, men are three times more likely to die by su***de than women.

Su***de is the biggest killer of men under 50 in the UK.
But because for most men, struggling in silence feels safer than speaking up.

We built Brother 2 Brother to change that. One walk, one conversation, one brother at a time.

So today, on the eve of World Mental Health Day, we’re asking one thing:
Check in on a man in your life. Not a broadcast. One person. Directly.

“How are you actually doing?”
Then wait for the answer.
