Good morning, it's the morning after the night before here at The Mystical Cat. "Mad Mary" has vanished from wence she came and some of the spooks have vanished with her.
We do have a few autumnal and halloweeny bits left which are mostly reduced. For regulars at our shop, we do sell witchy fayre 🧙♂️ 🕸 🕷 💀 🦇 all year round, so what has been reduced is out and marked down. We'll get some of the decorations down over the next week and strive to get all things Christmassy 🎄🎅 out as well as a little recognition of Armistice Day which os the 11th November with the Church Service for this next Sunday 8th November.
Today however celebrations do continue with Day (or rathers Days) of the Dead or Día de los Mu***os).
This a traditional Mexican holiday celebrated each year on November 1 and 2, with some local traditions beginning as early as October 31. Rather than a day of grief or fear, it is a joyful, colorful celebration of life and memory where families welcome back the souls of their departed loved ones.
The core belief is that the boundary between the spirit world and the living world dissolves, allowing departed souls to return, share a meal, and enjoy the company of their families.
Day of the dead is increasingly celebrated outside of Mexico, perhaps seen as a way of extending and merging our own Halloween 🎃 celebrations and a recognition of the diverse cultures that we have here in the UK and the wider world 🌎. In the UK it is celebrated with vibrant festivals, community ofrendas (altars), and street processions on November 1 and 2, 2026, with many events taking place across the weekend.
So on a final note, please remember we are open today the 1st November 2026 until around 4pm ish and are closed tomorrow Monday as usual.
From next Tuesday we will revert to winter hours and will close at around 3pm "ish"...where possible we wait for the last customer to leave our neighbours at The Old Dairy Tearoom so we could be open a little longer. BUT if you intend to visit or need something specific and will likely arrive after 3pm let us know in advance - as many know we do reserve items as well as ordering in and posting (P&P extra).
On that note have a great Sunday and catch up with you all next week.
Namaste 🙏
