📚 Did you know 2026 is the Year of Reading?

I only found this out last week, how did I miss that! It got me thinking about how much time I take reading these days.

This lovely photo is of my grandson George reading to my beautiful grand daughter Ivy, and it got me thinking about how important it is to encourage a love of books from an early age. ❤️

When Glenn (husband) and I first met, we actually chose a book for each other to read. I’m not sure whether that was a test of compatibility or an early warning of what we were letting ourselves in for! 😂

Is it our busy lifestyles, endless scrolling on social media or are we swapping books for audiobooks that’s taking us away from reading?

Research attributed to Mindlab International (2009) suggested that just six minutes of reading could reduce stress levels by up to 68%. Another good reason to put down the phone and pick up a book!” 📚❤

I have to admit, I need to be in the right mood to sit down with a book, but when I do, there’s something lovely about switching off from the outside world and getting lost in a story. It’s a chance to slow down, relax and give my mind a break from the constant noise of everyday life.

Perhaps it’s time we all made a little more room for reading.

Why is this useful?

📸 A visual record can help document what is seen during your ear examination.

👩‍⚕️ Images and video can be shared with your GP, ENT specialist or other medical professionals, where appropriate, to support referrals and ongoing assessment.

🔎 It can also help you understand exactly what I’m seeing and why further medical advice may be needed.

💕 It’s the little things that make being a Nanny so special… 👶🏼

At just 5 weeks old, my gorgeous little Ivy is already reminding me how amazing the human body is. 🥰

🔔 The gentle shake of a rattle and watching her turn her head towards the sound — those early little moments of hearing and responding.

🦶 And when I gently rub her tiny feet, seeing her relax and settle. A beautiful reminder of just how soothing touch can be, even in the earliest weeks of life.

As a registered nurse and reflexologist, I find myself noticing these little things even more. But right now, I’m simply enjoying the cuddles, the precious moments and falling completely in love with my new granddaughter. 💗

👂 “I didn’t even realise I had a problem with my ears!”

This is what came out of one client’s ear during my work this month!

Through my recent work with care homes, I’ve been struck by the number of residents who have needed ear wax removal during ad hoc ear checks.

Ear wax can build up gradually, and hearing can decline so slowly that people don’t even realise it’s happening. Often, changes are simply put down to getting older.

💙 But we shouldn’t automatically assume hearing difficulties are just part of ageing.
