One of those days when you wake up already tired, overwhelmed and overstimulated, and somehow you’re still expected to keep functioning like a normal human being.

My boy is in a pretty challenging stage of childhood, just about to turn three, and that morning I was approaching another breakdown.

He’s been kicking, slapping, demanding constant attention, chatting and climbing all over my head, all while I was trying to simply answer a few work emails.

And then I just broke down crying.

He stopped what he was doing, gave me a hug, and then I heard:

“I’m gonna bring you leaves. It’s gonna make you happy!”

And then the gifts kept coming…

With every leaf, I actually got a little happier. 😂 Honestly, it cracked me up that this was his idea of cheering me up.

Then he found a towel and gently wiped my tears away.

What a bittersweet moment.

Parenthood can push you right to the edge and then completely melt your heart within the space of a few minutes.

And it made me realise that this is how so many of my mornings… afternoons… and evenings… have been going for quite a while now.

I wake up and I am immediately needed.

Constantly. Loudly. Relentlessly.

There’s no real chance to start the day with something for myself unless I manage to wake up before my child does.

This isn’t a complaint. It’s a reflection on my reality, and the reality of so many parents out there.

Because among all the carefully curated, beautiful moments of parenthood we see on social media, maybe someone needs to see this s**tshow too.

The moments where you genuinely feel like you have nothing left to give.

And then, somehow, the tiny human who has completely overwhelmed you tries to make it better with a handful of leaves, a towel and a hug.

Because as much as children are one of the most beautiful gifts in the universe, and can show you the purest, biggest love you’ve ever experienced…

They can also be fu***ng annoying and tiring.

And both of those things can be true at the same time.

I’m gonna be honest, motherhood has been pushing all my buttons recently.

But this was a pretty cute moment during this extremely draining morning.

Freaking rollercoaster of my motherhood.

I had a vision (a pretty mad one) and then I made it happened…

Search “AVALANCHE” by MOTHER SHIPTON on YouTube to see the effects of this process 👀 https://youtu.be/fZS7vcX3qqk

It was a whole journey… from scriptwriting, through making the anglerfish helmet, filming with a toddler on set, technical problem-solving, crazy filming giggles, hours upon hours of editing and decision-making, a few bleeding wombs and hormonal storms during the process, lots of laughs with the crew, and even more weird looks from bystanders, heatwaves, plenty drink stops, and so much more… right through to the last (very last-minute) touch-ups…

BUT WE DID IT!

Massive thanks to everyone who got involved in this production!

Extra special thanks to our amazing Anglerfish, .tucks , for doing an incredible job in these mad conditions, travelling to Portsmouth between her school runs, trusting my insane vision and agreeing to do this before even knowing what she’s actually going to be wearing on her head. 😅

And thanks to our fantastic production assistant and on set photographer, Radosław Król .photo , for doing all the behind-the-scenes jobs that made filming so much easier, as well as documenting our journey.

Huge thanks as well to Rich Bug, Emily, and Connor for being absolutely amazing with our kids on set. Honestly, I didn’t think filming with a toddler was possible, but you guys made it happen.

And of course, thank you to all the businesses that allowed us to film at their premises (full credits are on YouTube).

Also, special thanks to .b.conscious for helping me craft the anglerfish and encouraging me to actually get s**t done.

Finally, thanks to for creating their music and trusting me to pick a song and just run with the first weird idea that came into my head. 🙃

I not only had an incredible time creating this, but it also means the world to me to be back creating after such a long break. It feels like I’ve finally got a little piece of my creative soul back where it belongs.

It also took every cell in my body to not overshare the process before the final release. Lol.

More nuggets from behind the scenes coming soon…

I was feeling very sad and overwhelmed this morning.

And my child knew that.

All it took was a “Mummy, do this with me!” while he ran around the house in all his silliness.

So I joined him.

We ran, danced, sang nonsense songs, and laughed for about 30 minutes…

I instantly felt better.

There’s something powerful about moving your body, laughing, being silly, and letting emotion out instead of holding it in.

Kids seem to understand that naturally.

Sometimes, they know exactly what we need.

Today, he became my little teacher.
