Delayed speech. Sensory sensitivities. Restricted eating. Severe childhood eczema.
When Julie first came to see me at three years old, her mum was concerned about her skin. But her history revealed a much broader picture.

Julie had not yet spoken a word. She experienced recurrent ear infections, had undergone repeated attempts at fitting grommets, and had persistent nasal congestion. Her feet were so sensitive that she would not let her mum touch them. She also favoured bland, pale-coloured foods and ground her teeth so loudly that it disturbed her mum's sleep.

These details mattered because I wanted to understand Julie as a whole child, rather than viewing her eczema in isolation.

Across four consultations, her mum reported encouraging changes in her skin, foot sensitivity, communication, eating and behaviour. Her ENT consultant also found no further fluid build-up in her ears.

For parents navigating delayed speech, developmental differences or sensory sensitivities, the everyday details can be especially familiar.

Every child has their own story, and understanding that individual picture is central to my approach at Red Soil Homeopathy.

Next, I'll be exploring the three remedies that featured in Julie's homeopathic journey.

We’re back with another Simple Swap Series✨🍂

This month, we’re focusing on autumn coughs, colds & flu, exploring some common over-the-counter options alongside remedies traditionally discussed in homeopathy.

As a qualified homeopath and pharmacist, I’ve experienced both approaches and understand the importance of looking at wellbeing from different perspectives.

In homeopathy, individualisation is central to the approach. This means considering the person’s overall symptom picture, rather than simply matching a remedy to a condition. 🌿

Throughout this month’s series, we’ll explore traditional homeopathic remedy profiles for symptoms commonly associated with the colder months, helping you learn more about homeopathy and its principles.

✨ Curious about homeopathy? Save this series, follow along and join the conversation!

A little but important reminder: The remedies featured are for educational purposes and should not replace prescribed medicines or professional medical advice. Always seek appropriate medical care when needed, particularly for babies, children and anyone at increased risk of complications from flu.

🍁 Here’s to staying informed and looking after ourselves this autumn.

🌿 REMEDY OF THE WEEK: CIMICIFUGA

This week, we're exploring Cimicifuga, also known as Actaea racemosa or black cohosh.

In classical homeopathic materia medica, this remedy is traditionally associated with three key themes:

🧠 Mental gloominess and restlessness
🌿 Muscular aches, particularly around the neck and back
🌸 Menstrual complaints accompanied by other characteristic symptoms

The art of materia medica is learning to recognise a remedy's traditional symptom picture rather than relying on a single keynote.

💬 Have you studied Cimicifuga? Which characteristic would you remember first?

Perimenopause at 44… but not the symptoms I expected. 🤍

No hot flushes. No rage. Instead, I’ve been dropping things, forgetting words mid-sentence, struggling with my spatial awareness and battling insomnia that leaves me exhausted.

But what frightened me most was the anxiety.

After experiencing postnatal depression, including suicidal thoughts, I was terrified of falling back into that same dark place. I know how frightening that can be, and I didn’t want to experience it again.

While studying at the Centre for Homeopathic Education (CHE), I’d explored remedies that I felt might be relevant to me during this phase of life. One of these was Cimicifuga, made from black cohosh.

I decided to try it when these symptoms began affecting me. I noticed a calming effect on my anxiety after my first dose, and after four days, my sleep had started to improve too. I’ve continued to feel more like myself.

This is my personal experience, and everyone’s journey through perimenopause is different. But it has reminded me how important it is to recognise the less obvious symptoms and seek support rather than struggle in silence.

💬 Have you experienced unexpected symptoms during perimenopause? Brain fog, clumsiness, anxiety or sleepless nights? I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments.

And if you’re struggling to navigate this phase of life, you’re welcome to reach out to me to discuss how I may be able to support you.

You don’t have to navigate it alone. 🤍

🍂 5 homeopathic remedies traditionally associated with different cough patterns.

A dry, tickly cough can feel very different from a rattly cough or one that comes in repeated bouts.

In traditional homeopathy, remedies such as Drosera, Spongia, Antimonium tartaricum, Bryonia and Ipecacuanha are associated with different descriptions of coughs.

Save this post for when you next have a cough or share it with someone who might find it useful. 🤍

Postpartum: the bit we don't always talk about. 🤍

Becoming a mum is beautiful, but it can also be one of the most challenging transitions in your life.

The crying. The sleepless nights. The constant demands. The overwhelm. The feeling that you should be coping, even when you're struggling inside.

I know this personally because I really struggled during my own postpartum experience.

It's one of those times when you can feel as though everyone needs something from you, while you're trying to work out what you need yourself.

I wish more mums felt able to speak openly about how they're really doing, without guilt or judgement.

In this post, I've shared four remedies commonly discussed in traditional homeopathy - Pulsatilla, Sepia, Ignatia and Cimicifuga - and the different emotional and physical patterns traditionally associated with them.

You deserve proper support, and you don't have to wait until things feel unbearable.
If you're struggling, please know you're not alone. 🤍

“I thought I was a bad mother. I didn’t realise I was struggling with postpartum depression.”

After having Mahi, my first child, chronic insomnia spiralled into anxiety, overwhelm, uncontrollable crying and panic attacks.

By five months postpartum, I was barely coping. I even had suicidal thoughts. It was a frightening realisation that I needed help.

I sought support from my GP, but still felt overwhelmed and unsure where to turn. Eventually, I went to Kenya to stay with my parents for six months. I needed support, reassurance and people around me while I recovered.

I’m sharing this because no mother should feel ashamed of struggling or believe she has to cope alone.

Looking back, I wish I’d known then what I know now. Today, I support women experiencing postpartum depression, anxiety, emotional overwhelm and insomnia through my homeopathy practice. I believe homeopathy can be a valuable source of individualised support during these challenging phases of life.

Please reach out to your GP and consider working with a qualified homeopath alongside your wider healthcare support. You deserve to be heard, understood and supported.

To any mum struggling right now: you are not a bad mother. You are not alone. You deserve care and compassion. ❤️

Need urgent help? In the UK, call NHS 111 and select the mental health option for urgent mental health support. If you feel you may act on suicidal thoughts or are in immediate danger, call 999 or go to A&E.

Please share this with a mum who might need to hear it.

Autumn is here 🍂

The days are getting cooler, wetter and windier and you may already be noticing that your body responds differently to the change in season.

Maybe you feel more stiff and achy when it’s cold and damp.

Perhaps cold air seems to trigger symptoms.

Or maybe you notice more nasal or respiratory symptoms when the weather turns.

The interesting thing is that the weather is the same for everyone, but our bodies don't all respond in the same way.

This is why noticing your own patterns can be so useful.

What tends to trigger your symptoms?
What makes them better or worse?
And what changes when the seasons do?

Swipe through to see a few traditional homeopathic remedy pictures associated with common autumn patterns. 🍂

How are we already 5 weeks into the school year? 😅

It feels like the summer holidays only just ended, and yet we're already back into the full swing of school runs, early mornings, homework, activities, meals, appointments, messages and emails.

Add in the darker mornings and colder, wetter weather… and it's no wonder some of us are feeling a little overwhelmed, irritable, tired or just not quite ourselves.

Sometimes that feeling of “I can't cope with everything right now” can show up emotionally and physically.

There are different homeopathic remedies that may be considered depending on your individual picture - and in this post I've shared three to explore: Ignatia, Sepia and Natrum muriaticum.

Remember, the key is not just what symptom you have, but how you experience it.

We are all different, even when we're going through similar things. 🤍

Does one of these remedy pictures sound familiar to you?

If you're feeling overwhelmed and would like some personalised support, DM me to book a consultation.

Did you know there’s a connection between your thyroid and your cholesterol? 🦋

When thyroid function is low, it can affect the way your body processes and clears LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

This means that sometimes, a change in cholesterol isn’t just about what you’re eating.

It’s one reason I believe it’s important to look at the bigger picture rather than focusing on one number in isolation.

Your thyroid, metabolism, hormones and cardiovascular health are all interconnected.

If you’ve noticed a change in your cholesterol, particularly alongside symptoms such as fatigue, feeling cold, brain fog, weight changes or sluggish digestion, it may be worth investigating.

And if you’d like to explore your symptoms from a whole-person perspective, DM me to book a consultation. 🦋
