Failure stings, but a lot of positives to take from marathon number one…
As a 42k newbie, here’s what I learnt…
1 - Run at least 39-40km in your running prep. People will tell you this is too much. Ignore them.
2 - I did 21 energy gels. Guzzling them down when my legs were fading. Turns out it was salt my body was craving. Work out your salt requirements for 42km at your race weight.
3 - AI running plans work great. Providing you know how to prompt them thoroughly, using a decent comprehension of running and training.
4 - Stretching mid race can be the difference between you finishing just behind your projected time, or not finishing at all.
5 - The music you listen to governs pace. Don’t listen to Celine Dion and wonder why you’re struggling to run fast.
6 - Ask for advice from people who have ran that race before. I had some outstanding advice from James Biggin which was pivotal in my race tactics. Thanks again mate 🫱🏼🫲🏽
7 - When there’s a race near you, go and support. It makes the world of difference to the runners.
Ready for redemption next year. Any suggestions on what race I should do next? 👇🏼
