This is what I work on with clients.

It’s okay to want to change a behaviour or habit, reaction to thoughts, or to make changes to your current situation.

But to do so and expect to be a different person is not the goal.

You can’t run away from a version of yourself you don’t like. You can’t will yourself to be someone you are not.

Accepting who you are is fundamental to being content and comfortable in your own life. It is in fact the most important thing that can allow change to happen, because the right change happens.

You can behave more in line with your own values and beliefs when you accept everything about the person you are.

An example, if you like me have chronic time blindness, willing yourself to be on time is never the answer. Instead accepting your challenge and understanding it allows you to account for it and no longer expect that it should be easy to just leave when you need to. Now you can catch yourself in those moments of ‘I’ll just do this’ and remind yourself that you can’t always test your perception of time, so it probably best to leave now and not take the chance.

Whoops I said it, now you’ve seen it.

No one else is you, so stop expecting them to be. You will only be sad and disappointed that they aren’t.
You will be mad that they do something different than you expect, because, they always will (because they aren’t you)

Instead, accept that other people have different thoughts, perspectives, opinions, desires, needs, preferences.

When you imagine everyone just rowing around in their own little row boats, sometimes they row the same way as you, sometimes they don’t, and sometimes they accidentally bump into you. You can see we are all alike and different at the same time.

You can’t expect to succeed without being prepared to get knocked down, it’s the bounce back which is the flex.

I see people who don’t appreciate how they have hit hard times and just kept going. They see failure in the mistake, I see bouncebackability. Once they realise this they shift their mindset to ‘I’ve got this’ and they feel more confident about the future.

Can you develop a fear of anything?

The short answer is YES.

Under the right conditions (which aren’t difficult to achieve) we can learn to be afraid of pretty much anything.

The key factor is that something triggers a negative response and there is no immediate comfort or safety to regulate our emotions.

If the negative response is significant enough and there is no immediate safety signal to end the cycle then we associate that object, situation or experience with a threat to our safety.

Naturally own brain wants to prevent this from happening in future, so reminds us of the threat and attempts to avoid the danger.

It’s this repeated threat signal combined with no new evidence that it was incorrect that locks the fear in.

Over time the fear can become associated with other similar objects or situations, and strengthen the original fear.

We can learn fear through our own experience or that of loved ones.

Simply thinking positive thoughts isn’t enough we have to feel safe and experience that same situation repeatedly to finally overcome the fear.

For many that is either not possible or not something they want to do. This is where hypnotherapy can come in as we can recreate the experience using our imagination and control how we want to experience it. This allows us to feel safe and in control and that is what we need to rewire this in our mind.

Safety is critical in removing fear, when you don’t feel physically safe your mind won’t complete the cycle.

Seasonal affective disorder

It’s that time again… if you have been experiencing a change in mood, energy, motivation, focus and this happens every time the days get shorter and we have less sunlight, then you might have seasonal affective disorder.

Research it as although it’s a mental health disorder that can’t be ‘cured’ there are things you can do to support yourself

I have been labelled many things in my life, ditzy, forgetful, disorganised, defensive, clumsy, silly, anxious, depressed, over sensitive, hypochondriac, hyperactive.

All of these labels were given without a clinical diagnosis, from people unqualified to assess my personality, or from places of judgment or perception.

None of them came from kindness or support.

These changed me as they knocked my confidence and self esteem, they became a he lens I saw myself through.

One label I did get which explains all of these and finally allowed me to understand and accept myself was ADHD.

That changed me, because I could finally stop feeling broken or blaming myself. The advice that never worked for me wasn’t going to because it was the wrong advice and never would.

So a label might change you but that might just correct years worth of incorrect labels and create a sense of hope and self worth that allows better systems and more compassion.

I must be missing something really obvious but I just don’t understand why everyone is so upset that we are trying to tell people it’s not their fault that they have a different way of experiencing the world? Why does it matter if they have a label???? I don’t know what difference it make if it doesn’t effect you personally.

I take adhd medication and it literally helps me work. I’m not stealing peoples glasses because I don’t want them to see clearly.

STOP IT ITS AI PATHETIC

ADHD and autism are real and people aren’t making it up. It’s harming people to make them think they don’t deserve answers and that having a label is wrong. It’s making people sick and that costs everyone more than a fu***ng diagnostic assessment. It’s not about the money. It’s about division and control.
