🟣 Yesterday, Nursing Homes Ireland was very proud to work with LGBT Ireland for our joint World Café Event at the Carmichael Centre, Dublin 7. This in-person event was a new collaboration between Nursing Homes Ireland and LGBT Ireland that focused on supporting the adoption of the UK CIRCLE Guide for use in nursing homes in Ireland.

⭕ The UK CIRCLE Guide champions inclusive care provision and was co-designed by older LGBTQ+ people and care providers in the UK, specifically for use in long-term residential care. This guidance offers practical tips on what care providers can do to make their care practice more inclusive for LGBTQ+ residents. This inclusion focused care provision programme can be used in day-to-day care practice, in supervision conversations, and in staff training.

✨ Yesterday, was a fantastic coming together of professionals and advocates from across the nursing home, elder care, and LGBTQI+ sectors, and allowed for the incredible sharing of ideas, information, expertise and insights, which will help NHI & LGBT Ireland to adapt the UK CIRCLE Guide for use in Ireland. Attendees also heard from the fantastic Dr Jolie Keemink on how the CIRCLE Guide was developed and implemented in the UK.

🔄 NHI is looking forward to helping to support the adaptation of the UK CIRCLE Guide for Irish nursing homes, ensuring that the high-quality, person-centred, and choice-led care that underpins Ireland’s nursing home sector remains as inclusive as possible.

🗣 At the our CEO Tadhg Daly called on the Government, and An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, to convene a National Dialogue on Ageing without delay!

💜 NHI remains committed to seeking the formation of a National Dialogue on Ageing, as preparing for how we will care and support our growing older population is paramount - just as celebrating them is! Government action on this is needed now, and we remain available to support in the development and implementation of this National Dialogue.

🟣 Our CEO, Tadhg Daly will continue to engage with Government Ministers and Officials to progress the establishment of a National Dialogue on Ageing.

📆 Its hard to believe that the Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) Annual Conference 2026 was one month ago.

💜 The NHI Conference 2026 was one of our biggest with over 550 Delegates, Members, Exhibitors, and Guests in attendance we were so proud to host the people that drive the nursing home sector in Ireland forward everyday – ensuring the provision of top-quality, person centred, and choice led care for older people in every parish, village, town and city in Ireland.

🟣 At our Annual Conference 2026 we premiered the NHI Residents Forum Video.

💜 The NHI Residents Forum is a space for Nursing Home Residents from across the country to come together (via video conferencing) to discuss the issues, challenges, and opportunities that face them as a unique and vibrant cohort of our population. The Residents Forum is a key part of NHIs HOMES Strategy and we are delighted to see this vitally important Forum continue to grow at each meeting.

💜 NHI is pleased to announce that we are collaborating with LGBT Ireland to facilitate a World Cafe Event on the 28 of October 2026 in Dublin City Centre.

🌍 This World Cafe Event is being organised as part of a collaboration between NHI and LGBT Ireland that is seeking to adapt the UK CIRCLE Guide for use in Ireland.

📚 The CIRCLE care home guide was co-designed with older LGBTQ+ people and care providers. It was developed for use in care homes for older people, the guide offers practical tips on what you can do to make your care practice more inclusive for LGBTQ+ residents. It can be used in day-to-day care practice, in supervision conversations, and in staff training.

🟣 In advance of the NHI Annual Conference 2026, we invited submissions for E-Poster Presentations. We were delighted to receive a wide range of submissions from across our Membership outlining some of the innovation, collaboration, and positive work that our sector is progressing nationwide.

✨ The winning E-Poster, titled: Transforming Nursing Home Care – A Frailty-Lensed Primary Care Service Model was developed and submitted by Geraint Warlow and Sarah Toland. Well done to Geraint and Sarah for this excellent poster and all their hard work in its research and development.

💜 Everyone at Nursing Homes Ireland would like to say congratulations to this year's winners, and thank our judges, Kimberly Fitch Tully, from Engaging Dementia and Clodagh Killeen, from LHP Skillnet for their time and consideration in evaluating all E-Poster submissions.
