Is embryo transfer painful? 🤍

After everything involved in IVF, it's natural to wonder whether the embryo transfer itself will hurt.

Dr Harry Karpouzis, Founder & Scientific Director of Pelargos IVF Fertility Group, explains that embryo transfer is usually a simple and straightforward procedure, although some patients may experience discomfort.

Previous cervical surgery or difficulties with the cervix can sometimes make the procedure more challenging. In selected cases, sedation may be considered.

💬 Did you find your embryo transfer comfortable, or was it more difficult than expected?

UPDATE: We have photographs.

They show a corridor, an exit and a very familiar woman who looks remarkably relaxed for someone who hasn't moved in five centuries.

We were expecting a spectacular disappearance. She seems to have handled it with the composure of somebody popping out for a coffee.

There is one detail we can't stop looking at.

Nobody is carrying her away.

Which raises a rather inconvenient possibility: what if Mona Lisa wasn't taken? What if she simply left?

If you were leaving after 500 years in one pose, where would you go first?

Here's your next clue. Study the photographs, tell us what we've missed and tag the friend who notices every detail. Share the clue to your Story and tag us. Let's follow the trail together.

Does a man’s age affect fertility treatment? 🧬

When discussing fertility, the focus often falls on the woman’s age — but what about the male partner?

Dr Harry Karpouzis, Founder & Scientific Director of Pelargos IVF Fertility Group, explains that s***m parameters and DNA fragmentation can change with age. He also refers to research investigating possible links between paternal age and certain conditions in children.

He recommends discussing and investigating relevant factors before beginning IVF.

💬 Should male age and s***m DNA fragmentation be discussed more routinely before IVF?

Maybe IVF abroad is still on your mind, even if your plans have been on hold. 💗

Perhaps you've spent time researching clinics, comparing treatment options and wondering how you could make it all happen.

And then there's the cost. Sometimes, that's enough to make you put your plans aside for a while.

We know that having treatment funded doesn't make every question or uncertainty disappear. But it could make one important part of the journey a little easier.

And there's an opportunity we'd really love you to know about before it closes.

There are just 3 days left to apply for the Fertility Journey Project 2026.

Together with Fertility Road, Dr Fernando Rodríguez Belmonte and his team at Ferrobelab International in Alicante, Spain, are offering two funded IVF treatment cycles:

✨ One IVF-ICSI cycle with your own eggs
✨ One IVF cycle with donor eggs

Applications close on 31 October 2026.

If IVF abroad is still something you're considering, take a few minutes to explore what's included and see whether this opportunity could be right for you.

Perhaps it's time to revisit a possibility you haven't quite let go of. 💗

BREAKING NEWS: MONA LISA IS MISSING. 🚨

Five centuries in one portrait. Countless visitors. And now? An empty frame. Did she finally get tired of smiling for everyone?

Her frame is still in place. The mountains haven't moved. Even the little winding path in the background has turned up for work.

Only the woman is missing.

For hundreds of years, we've been asking what her smile means. Perhaps it's time to ask a rather more practical question.

Where on earth has she gone?

Have you seen her? Heard a rumour? Know someone who might? Leave your best lead below. Tag a sharp-eyed friend, or share this post to your Story and tag us. The more people looking, the better our chances of finding Mona.

It’s late, the tea has gone cold, and you have 14 tabs open. One is a clinic page, one is a forum thread, one is a spreadsheet you started “just to compare”. Somewhere in the middle of all that, you typed a question you didn’t quite expect to type: will my child one day be able to know who the donor was?

If that’s you right now, this carousel is for you. Swipe through for what Open-ID donation in Portugal actually means:

→ Anonymous donation ended there in 2018
→ At 18, a donor-conceived adult can ask who the donor is
→ Donor details are kept for at least 75 years
→ Spain and Portugal take very different approaches
→ Optional genetic matching can check up to 2,200 genes

This is a big decision, and you’re allowed to take your time with it. Read, screenshot, send it to a friend, come back tomorrow. Whether you’re doing this with a partner or on your own, you don’t have to work it all out in one night.

Every article on our blog is written by humans, not AI, because questions like these deserve people who understand what’s at stake.

When IVF doesn't work, the disappointment doesn't end with the negative result.

Sometimes it follows you into the most ordinary moments.

Like hearing that someone you care about is pregnant.

I know that feeling. I could be genuinely happy for another woman and still feel that awful stab of jealousy.

Not because she didn't deserve her happiness. Of course she did.

But because I'd been trying so hard. Putting so much of myself into something that seemed to happen so easily for others. And despite everything, it still hadn't worked for me.

And then came the guilt.

As if an unsuccessful IVF cycle wasn't painful enough, I had to feel terrible about my own feelings, too.

But here's something I've come to understand: being happy for someone else doesn't mean you stop hurting for yourself.

Those two feelings can exist together. We shouldn't have to apologise for that.

And perhaps we could be a little kinder to ourselves, especially when we're already carrying so much.

I also know that disappointment often leaves us with questions. About the treatment, the decisions, and whether there might be another way forward.

I don't have those answers. But I wanted to share a possibility with you.

Dr Natalia Szlarb offers a free, 30-minute online consultation to discuss previous IVF treatment and explore possible medical options.

No promises. No pressure to start another treatment. Just an opportunity to ask questions and hear another medical perspective.

If you'd like to know more, I've left the details in the first comment. ☕👇

IVF abroad can mean travelling far from home for something deeply personal. 💗
And naturally, you might wonder what it will feel like when you arrive.

Will the doctor have time for your questions? Will someone listen when you talk about your worries? Will you feel comfortable enough to share your story?
These things matter. Sometimes, more than we realise.

At Ferrobelab International in Alicante, Spain, Dr Fernando Rodríguez Belmonte believes that caring for someone begins with listening.

Taking the time to understand their story, their hopes, and what truly matters to them.

And this is someone we'd really love you to meet. 💗

Together with Fertility Road, Ferrobelab International is offering an opportunity through this year's Fertility Journey Project to have an IVF treatment cycle funded.
Two people will have the chance to receive treatment at the clinic:

✨ One IVF-ICSI cycle with their own eggs
✨ One IVF cycle with donor eggs

And perhaps this could be an opportunity for you, too.

We'd love you to discover the project, get to know the people behind it, and see whether it's something you'd like to be part of.

📅 You have until 31 October 2026 to take part.

Do you still remember Bella and Edward? Does autumn bring that story back for you too? 🍂

In Breaking Dawn, Edward was a vampire. Bella was still human. And she got pregnant with his child. Unthinkable. How could this happen? IMPOSSIBLE.

In a fantasy world, the impossible can happen. But in real life? Imagine a doctor looks you in the eye and says: "This time next year, you'll be holding your baby in your arms."

Sounds like a dream, doesn't it? But in this situation, there's only one right reaction:

RUN.

No one can promise that, least of all someone who hasn't heard your story yet. A beautiful promise isn't a treatment plan.

You deserve a doctor who listens first, and then tells you the truth about what's possible for you. Because you are the most important person in that room.

Dr Natalia Szlarb is a fertility specialist who is drawn to difficult cases, including those where earlier IVF attempts haven't worked. She offers a free, one-to-one online consultation, with no obligation to start any treatment.

Thirty minutes won't change your past. But they might change how you see what comes next. Isn't that worth 1,800 seconds? ☕
