For three decades, Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) has helped millions of children recover from severe malnutrition.

Local production across Eastern and Southern Africa, including Ethiopia, Kenya and Madagascar, helps make RUTF available for a faster response when emergencies strike. It also reduces manufacturing and transport costs and lowers environmental impact.

Your contribution can help UNICEF continue reaching children with essential nutrition support.

When 11-year-old Eunice lost her father in a traffic accident, her family’s financial situation changed overnight. Forced to drop out of school in 2025, her dream of becoming a doctor seemed out of reach.

Through Kenya’s Out-of-School Children Programme, supported by Hapag-Lloyd, UNICEF and partners, Eunice was identified during a community outreach visit and supported to return to school.

“When children who have dropped out return to school and receive the support they need, they rarely leave again,” says Rose, Head Teacher at Saina Primary School.

For Eunice, returning to school has opened the door to possibilities that once seemed out of reach.

“I want to be a doctor when I grow up because I know my dad would be very proud of me,” says Eunice.

Together, we can help ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, thrive and fulfil their potential.

"I felt safe because I knew where to go and there were people looking out for me." – Eunice, mother of three.

When Eunice was expecting her third child, help came long before she reached a health facility. Edward, her Community Health Promoter, visited her at home. He explained what services were available and encouraged her to go for antenatal check-ups at Dandora II Health Centre.

When the time came, Eunice safely delivered her son, Calvin, with nurses beside her. Edward still visits the family to check on Calvin's growth and health. Calvin is now a healthy, active toddler.
Eunice's story shows what is possible when community health promoters, health centres and hospitals work together as one network of care. UNICEF is supporting eight of Nairobi County's eleven Primary Health Care Networks to make this a reality for more families.
