He iti te tira, he nui te kaha.
A small group, great strength!!

Today Te Ara Whānau explored the shores of Te Moana o Ōkāreka - Lake Ōkāreka

We learnt about the local hapū of Ngāti Tarāwhai and Tūhourangi, the historic pā of Taumaihi, Huiterangiora, Peria and Te Kaharoa, and the origins of the name Ōkāreka, meaning the lake of sweet food, reflecting the abundance of kai that sustained generations before us.

With nearly 7km walked and completed by midday, the crew showed some awesome resilience, determination and capability along the way.

Small in numbers, big in heart and mahi!

Ka mau te wehi, Te Ara whānau! 👣

It was wonderful to welcome old friends, familiar faces, and make new connections. We were proud to share our facility upgrades, as well as the changes we’ve made to the way we work and support our people.

Thank you to the councillors, trustees, and community leaders who attended and took an interest in our work. We appreciated seeing partner organisations bring people along to explore our space.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect and strengthen relationships across our community. Thank you again to all who were part of it! 💚

✨ 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭 ✨

We would like to sincerely thank Leanne Leef - Real Estate Rotorua for supporting the work of Te Aratu Trust. Earlier this year, we proudly added Property Brokers signage to our vans to acknowledge Leanne's contribution to our organisation and the people we support.

We're also extremely thankful to Grassroots Trust and Four Winds Foundation for their generous funding in July 2026, which enabled us to purchase a third van. This investment has strengthened our ability to provide safe, reliable transport for the people we walk alongside every day.

Thank you Katie Hoy Photographer for the awesome photos 📸

Tomorrow's haerenga! All Te Aratu whānau are welcome to come along. 😊

𝐓𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐚 𝐓𝐚̄𝐧𝐞 - today we headed out to the trout hatchery, where we learnt a bit about the introduction of trout to Aotearoa, why the hatchery was established, and the impacts trout have had on both tangata whenua and tauiwi.

We had a walk around and checked out the trout at all different stages of their lives, from the little ones through to the big fellas!

From there, we headed to the Redwoods, where we came across the helicopter crash site! A few of the tāne even signed the passport hidden in the back of the chopper. Pretty cool find!

The walk there and back wasn't easy, but every single one of the tāne showed resilience, determination and kaha to get back to the van. The progress in everyone's fitness over such a short time has been noticed and deserves to be commended. Choice to see the boys pushing through, supporting themselves and each other, and getting it done.

Another great day out, building fitness, learning new things, connecting with the taiao and strengthening hauora along the way.

Tau kē, tāne mā! Ka pai koutou!

“He oranga ngākau, he pikinga waiora.”

When the heart is well, the wellbeing of the whole person rises.

A huge thank you to our incredible funding partners for helping upgrade our space and resources for the people we support. Thanks to your generosity, we've installed heat pumps, new vinyl flooring, a dishwasher, spouting, new joinery, and purchased a van to better connect with our community.

Your support helped us create a safer, more welcoming, and more accessible environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Ngā mihi nui! 💚
