👅 When was the last time you really looked at your tongue?

Not simply to brush your teeth, but to actually stop and observe it. The colour, texture, coating, shape. How it looks compared to yesterday?

During my Ayurvedic studies, one of my teachers described tongue diagnosis as looking through the opposite end of a periscope into a submarine. A way of peering inside to see what’s going on beneath the surface.

In Ayurveda, the tongue is considered a living mirror of our internal ecosystem, offering clues about our digestion, Dosha balance and overall wellbeing.

The body whispers until it screams.

Our bodies are constantly communicating with us, often in the most subtle ways. The problem is we’ve become so accustomed to ignoring these little signals that we rarely stop to consider what they might be telling us.

And this is what I find so empowering about Ayurveda. It teaches us to become our own healers, to recognise the relationship between our actions and the results we’re experiencing.

We don’t have to be perfect, simply curious.

So, in the spirit of becoming a little more curious about what’s happening on the inside, I’ve put together the Roam Tongue Diagnosis Cheat Sheet 👅

A simple guide to what your tongue might be telling you, along with some Ayurvedic practices to try.

Tomorrow morning, before you brush your teeth, stick your tongue out in the mirror and have a proper look. You might be surprised by what you notice!

👇 Comment TONGUE below and I’ll send you the link to the cheat sheet and full journal post.

Have you noticed your appetite growing as the weather gets colder? 🍁

Ayurveda has always understood that we don’t exist separately from nature. As the light, temperature and seasons change around us, things begin to shift within us too — our appetite, digestion, energy and what we need to feel balanced.

We often talk about Dinacharya, our daily rhythm, but Ritucharya looks at the bigger picture: how we adapt the way we eat, move and care for ourselves as we move through the seasons.

And perhaps most importantly, Ayurveda doesn’t ask us to make these changes overnight. The transition between seasons, known as Ritu Sandhi, is about shifting gradually, allowing the body time to adjust.

It’s a reminder that balance doesn’t always mean doing the same things consistently. Sometimes balance means knowing when to change.

This is something we explore more deeply in Flow into Balance, my 2-hour online workshop exploring Ayurvedic rhythms — from our daily routines and the Doshas to the seasons, moon cycle and different stages of life.

We are meant to ride nature’s waves, not fight against them.

One-Day Ayurvedic Beauty & Skincare Workshop
7th November
Porto
** Limited spots available **

Super excited to finally share this one with you. It’s a workshop that has been brewing for some time 🍯

When I studied Ayurveda in my early 30s, we spent a whole module exploring Ayurvedic beauty and skincare. I found it fascinating but, if I’m honest, skincare and graceful ageing weren’t exactly high on my list of concerns back then!

Fast-forward to my mid-40s, postpartum, with a one-year-old who has fairly strong opinions about how much beauty sleep I need 😂, and I’ve found myself returning to those teachings with a very different level of interest.

Having a little one has also made me think differently about ageing. We celebrate every change in him — learning to walk, making new sounds, discovering something for the first time. He meets each new stage with curiosity, completely willing to explore this whole adventure of being human.

It made me wonder why we don’t always approach our own ageing with the same sense of celebration.

After all, we’re ageing from the moment we’re born.

That’s what I love about Ayurveda’s approach to beauty. It isn’t about fighting ageing or finding the next miracle product. It looks at the whole person — our skin type, digestion, food, sleep, daily habits, how we nourish ourselves and what we put on our skin.

So on Saturday 7 November, I’m bringing all of this together for Beauty from the Inside Out — A One-Day Ayurvedic Beauty & Skincare Workshop in Porto.

We’ll learn, make, mix and try Ayurvedic skincare, explore graceful ageing and radiance from within, and learn how to give ourselves a complete Ayurvedic facial at home.

And because it wouldn’t be a Roam day without food, we’ll also share a relaxed Ayurvedic lunch together 🌱

7 November | 10.30am–4pm | Porto | €45

A friend reminded me of Katherine May’s book Wintering last week, and I’ve since revisited it.

Whilst it’s not quite winter yet, the days are getting shorter, the temperatures are dropping, and with it comes that familiar little panic that summer is over.

Wintering remains one of my favourite books, and although Ayurveda isn’t mentioned, so much of what Katherine talks about echoes this ancient wisdom.

There is a natural rhythm to everything. Our bodies, the days, the seasons and the natural world around us. Nature moves in cycles, and we too are part of that same ecosystem 🌀

And yet, we seem to resist the slowing down that comes with the cooler seasons.

Something Katherine reminds us of so beautifully is that stillness is not a step backwards. It’s essential.

Wintering isn’t about being stuck. It’s the season where transformation takes root.

I’ll leave you with one of my favourite quotes from the book, which I often recite in workshops and classes…

Have a wonderful week and… happy hibernating 🍂

🌱 A horse, an apple tree and a lesson I’ve never forgotten…

Many moons ago, during my Ayurvedic studies, one of my teachers, Dr Vasant Lad, shared a story that completely shifted my understanding of food.

When he was growing up in India, his family had a little horse who lived at the bottom of their garden. Every day, the children would feed him fallen apples, and every day he’d come galloping over, delighted at the prospect of his favourite treat 🍎
Years passed, the children grew older, the little horse passed away and the family buried him in the garden.

Lo and behold, a few months later, an apple tree began to grow from the very same spot. 🌳

As so we have this poignant example of the cycle of life:
From Seed → Apple Tree → Horse → Seed → Apple Tree 🌳🍎

What appears to be an ending is, in fact, a new beginning in this endless exchange of energy between the earth and all the life it supports 🌀

I remember hearing this story and suddenly seeing food in an entirely different light.

Every ingredient on our plate belongs to a much greater story. The food we consume becomes part of us, just as we are part of nature’s continual unfolding.

And yet, somewhere amongst all the counting of calories, nutrients and the endless conversations about what we should and shouldn’t eat, I wonder whether we’ve lost touch with the more expansive meaning of nourishment.

Perhaps that’s where Ayurveda has something rather lovely to offer us. ❣️

I’ve been exploring this in my latest Roam Journal post, The Sacred Art of Eating, along with five simple Ayurvedic practices to bring a little more awareness, gratitude and connection into the everyday act of eating.

Little things that can make even the most ordinary meal feel rather extraordinary.

🌱 Comment APPLE below and I’ll send you the link to the full Journal post, including all five practices to try at home.

With love and appreciation,

I’ve developed a rather lovely little habit of putting food on my face....and not accidentally, I might add. 😂

Honey, yoghurt, avocado, rose, a little turmeric… ingredients that would ordinarily be destined for my belly are increasingly finding their way onto my cheeks. And I absolutely love it.

There’s something wonderfully playful about standing in my kitchen, mixing up a little concoction and then smearing it all over my face.

Because when did skincare become such a serious business?

Somewhere along the way, we seem to have accumulated bathroom cabinets overflowing with products, complicated routines and rather expensive promises of eternal youth.
And while I do love a good skincare ritual, I’m finding so much more joy in returning to the ingredients and practices I first discovered when studying Ayurvedic beauty all those years ago.

I’m not particularly interested in chasing the promise of looking ten years younger.
I’m much more interested in caring for my skin, enjoying the rituals and feeling good in the skin I’m in.

And if that involves sitting around with yoghurt on my face looking like I’ve had a disagreement with my breakfast, then so be it. 😂

I’ve shared 3 DIY Ayurvedic face masks on The Roam Journal — one for Vata, Pitta and Kapha skin.

My skincare routine has a new step… and this one starts in the kitchen. 🌹

I first learnt about Ayurvedic beauty rituals during my studies many years ago. At the time, I was in my early 30s and, if I’m honest, skincare and graceful ageing didn’t feel particularly relevant to me.

Now, in my mid-40s, postpartum and with a one-year-old who has other ideas about my eight hours of beauty sleep, I’ve found myself dusting off those old Ayurvedic textbooks. 😂

Ayurveda takes a different approach to beauty. Rather than focusing solely on what we apply to the surface of our skin, it also looks at how well we’re nourishing the body and its tissues from within.

This Ayurvedic Skin Tonic with Saffron & Rose is one of the rituals I’ve brought back. Made with full-fat milk, rose petal powder, saffron, turmeric, cardamom and ghee, it has quickly become something I genuinely look forward to each day.

And alongside the other changes I’ve made to my skincare and daily routines, I’ve noticed a real difference in the condition and complexion of my skin.

I’ve shared the full recipe, how to make it and the Ayurvedic benefits of each ingredient in the Roam Journal.

🌹 Want to try it? Comment GLOW below and I’ll send you the recipe link.

Did you know we have a WhatsApp community?

For over 3 years, every Monday we’ve shared a little moment of inspiration with our community. That’s more than 150 Monday’s Moments filled with books, podcasts, teachings, reflections and sparks of wisdom that have stopped us in our tracks and stayed with us long after we’d read them.

We created Monday’s Moments because we believe transformation doesn’t always come from doing more. Sometimes it begins by simply pausing.

Each week, we’ll send you something to read, watch or listen to. A gentle invitation to slow down, reflect and reconnect with yourself. Inspired by Ayurveda, Yoga, Mindfulness and conscious living, these are the ideas, teachers and conversations that continue to shape the way we live, practise and teach.

No overwhelm. Just one small thoughtful moment each week to nourish your mind, your heart and your nervous system.

If that sounds like something your week could use, we’d love to welcome you.
