Your muscles may feel ready for the next run, but your bones and joints may still be recovering. 🏃
Running places repeated load on the bones, joints, tendons and muscles. While this stress helps the body adapt, these tissues also need sufficient recovery time to repair and become better prepared for the next training load.
When training volume or intensity increases faster than the body can adapt, stress can accumulate. Over time, this may contribute to persistent aches, tendinopathy and bone stress injuries.
That’s why recovery days are not simply “days off”. They give your musculoskeletal system time to repair, adapt and build resilience.
As marathon season approaches, remember:
Train → Recover → Adapt → Progress
A stronger training plan isn’t always about doing more. Sometimes, it’s about giving your body enough time to respond to the work you’ve already done.
