We're especially excited about what's ahead for Reflections Memory Cafe in 2027! We've been working behind the scenes on some wonderful plans to expand our programming, create new opportunities for meaningful engagement, and bring even more community involvement into the Cafe.

Our vision is to build something truly special: a welcoming place where individuals experiencing memory or cognitive changes, their caregivers, and families can come together, build friendships, enjoy meaningful activities, and feel a genuine sense of belonging.

We can't wait to share what we're building Reflections Cafe and Reflections Management and Care in the coming year! 🌷💜

And of course, we can't forget our fearless leader, Lindsay Kratzer! Her passion, dedication, and commitment to improving the lives of older adults and their caregivers continue to inspire everything we do. Her vision has always been about more than providing services. It's about creating connections, advocating for families, building community, and making sure individuals and their loved ones feel supported every step of the way.

From the continued growth of Reflections Management & Care to the exciting future of Reflections Memory Cafe, we're so proud of how far we've come and even more excited about where we're going!

This one is for the caregivers. 💙

Care plans do not usually collapse because the older adult declines.

They collapse because the caregiver does.

If you have been running on fumes for months — telling yourself you will rest after the next appointment, the next crisis, the next whatever — please read this.

Caregiver burnout is not just “a hard week.” It is exhaustion that sleep does not fix. Irritability followed by guilt followed by more exhaustion. Withdrawing from people you love because everything beyond the caregiving feels like one more demand. Feeling like you can never do enough, no matter how much you actually do.

And here is the thing most caregivers need to hear: taking a break is not selfish. Caring for yourself is what lets you keep caring for someone else. You are the load-bearing structure of another person’s life. That structure needs maintenance, too.

Does this sound familiar? 💙

One sibling lives nearby and sees the daily reality — the confusion at dinner, the near-misses, the wear. Another visits for two days at Christmas and sees Mom on her best behavior.

Neither is wrong. They are just looking at two completely different datasets.

And when a parent needs care, those two pictures have to come together and make joint decisions — on top of four decades of family history, unspoken resentments, uneven workloads, and yes, money quietly sitting in the background.

Sibling disagreement over a parent’s care is one of the most common situations we see. In loving families. In close families. In families who genuinely want to do the right thing.

It is workable — but it helps to understand why it happens before trying to fix it.

Here is something worth thinking about. 💙

Most older adults who start to struggle don't struggle medically first.

They struggle with everything else.

The groceries that are hard to carry up the steps. The appointment they skipped because driving at dusk feels unsafe. The paperwork piling up on the kitchen table. The afternoon that would just be better with someone in it.

There is a name for the support that fills that gap: non-medical concierge care.

And in our latest blog post, we explain exactly what it is, who it is for, and why it often matters more than people expect:

✅ Errands, grocery runs, pharmacy pickups, and returns
✅ Rides to appointments — plus company inside them, so nothing important gets missed
✅ Help with household organization, mail, and the seasonal tasks that pile up

The Office for the Aging will provide an overview of its programs and services, followed by an opportunity to discuss the needs of older adults in our community.

Flu vaccines will also be available—please bring your Medicare or insurance card if you would like to receive one. 💉

If there is a veteran or a veteran's widow or widower in your family who needs help with daily life, please read this. 💙

There is a benefit called Aid and Attendance — a monthly, tax-free addition to the VA pension for eligible wartime veterans and their surviving spouses. Families use it to help pay for in-home caregivers, assisted living, memory care, and nursing home care.

And a large share of the people who are entitled to it have never applied.

Not because they were denied. Because they never knew it existed.

There is also a myth that stops families from even looking into it: that the veteran had to serve in combat to qualify.

They did not.

Combat service is not required. A stateside clerk during the Korean War era can qualify just as surely as someone who served overseas. Enormous numbers of families rule themselves out on this misunderstanding alone.
