Halloween can be exciting, but costumes, unfamiliar decorations, loud noises and changes in routine may feel overwhelming for some autistic children. A little preparation can help make the day more comfortable and enjoyable for your family.
🎃Consider practicing costumes ahead of time, previewing your plans with a visual schedule and bringing familiar comfort items or headphones.
🎃Follow your child’s cues, offer breaks when needed and remember that participating may look different for every child.
🎃Dressing up, visiting one house, celebrating at home or skipping an activity altogether are all valid choices.

A career in Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, and working with those diagnosed with autism, is rewarding and fulfilling as you make a meaningful difference in a child’s life. Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) work directly with children to practice skills and support individualized goals. Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) assess needs, develop treatment plans and guide clinical care.
