Hair shedding doesn’t automatically mean your testosterone needs to go.

And the timing matters more than you might think.

Hair shedding from stress, illness, rapid weight loss, or inadequate nutrition often doesn’t show up until 2–3 months AFTER the trigger.

So the medication you started six weeks ago might get blamed for something that was already happening.

When a patient tells me she’s losing hair, I want to know WHEN it started, whether it’s shedding all over or thinning in a particular pattern, and what changed in the months leading up to it.

I’m also looking at her testosterone dose and levels, medications, nutrition, and whether labs like ferritin or thyroid testing make sense.

Sometimes we adjust testosterone. Sometimes we uncover an entirely different problem. And sometimes both are contributing.

The goal is to make the right decision, not the quickest assumption.

“I know something is off. I just don’t know what.”

If you’ve ever said this, you’re not alone.

You don’t need to walk into your appointment already knowing which hormone is low, which labs you need, or whether your thyroid is the problem.

That’s part of what we’re here to figure out.

The SHIFT Clarity Consult™ starts with your story:

What changed?
When did it start?
Which symptoms showed up together?
What have you already tried?
What questions still haven’t been answered?

Then we look at the data in the context of your story, rather than treating one “normal” result as the end of the conversation.

From there, we connect the pieces and determine what makes sense to explore next.

Because having more lab results isn’t necessarily helpful if you’re still left wondering:

“Okay... but what do I actually do now?”

The goal is clarity around what may be happening, why we’re looking at certain factors, and what the next steps could be.

If you’ve been told “Everything looks normal” but you still don’t feel like yourself, it may be time to take a closer look.

Anything that you thought would be better that isn't?

10/30/2026

You’re on HRT. Your hot flashes are better. But you’re still waking up at 3 AM, struggling to focus, and hitting a wall by mid-afternoon.

So what’s missing?

Hormone therapy can be working, and you can STILL not feel like yourself.

Sometimes your hormones need adjusting. Sometimes there’s something else contributing to your symptoms.

Maybe you’re not fueling your body well enough. Maybe insulin resistance, poor sleep, or another underlying issue is part of the picture.

And sometimes it’s a combination of things.

That’s why I don’t believe in looking at menopause in isolation.

You don’t necessarily need extensive labs to diagnose perimenopause, but you DO need someone willing to look beyond the diagnosis when you’re still struggling.

The goal isn’t just to get you on hormones. It’s to help you actually feel better.

💬 If you’re already on HRT, what’s one symptom you thought would improve but hasn’t?

You’re used to working hard and getting results.

So when your body stops responding, your instinct is to do more. Exercise harder. Eat less. Push through.

But hormonal changes, stress, and poor sleep can change how your body responds.

You don’t need another area of your life to work harder at.

You need to understand what’s changed and adjust your approach.

Is it hormones? Or is it something else? Or maybe a little bit of both...

Your period looks like a crime scene, your hair is clogging the shower drain, and you’re barely making it through your 2 PM meeting. 🫠

But your doctor says you’re not anemic, so everything must be fine. Right?

Not necessarily.

Here’s something I wish more women knew: You can have iron deficiency even when your hemoglobin is completely normal.

During perimenopause, heavier or longer periods can gradually deplete your iron stores.

And low iron can leave you feeling exhausted, struggling through workouts, getting winded more easily, and noticing increased hair shedding.

The problem? If we’re only checking a CBC, we may miss it.

Ferritin helps us understand your iron stores. And when symptoms and results warrant it, we need to look beyond a normal blood count.

But here’s the other piece: We can’t just replace your iron and ignore why you’re bleeding so heavily in the first place.

Your hormones don’t operate in isolation, and your treatment plan shouldn’t either.

Have you ever been told your bloodwork was normal when you knew something wasn’t right?Tell me in the comments. 👇

She decided years ago that hormone therapy wasn't for her.

Maybe she was 45 and struggling with hot flashes, sleepless nights, or painful s*x.

Then she heard:

“Hormones cause breast cancer.”
“Hormones cause heart attacks.”
“Hormones are dangerous.”

And she never asked about them again.

Honestly, I understand why.

For years, the FDA's boxed warning on menopausal hormone therapy shaped how women and healthcare providers viewed its risks.

But medical guidance evolves as evidence develops.

In February 2026, the FDA approved updated labeling for certain menopausal hormone therapy products, removing certain risk statements from their boxed warnings. This doesn't mean hormone therapy is risk-free or right for every woman.

Your age matters.
Your time since menopause matters.
Your medical history matters.
The type and route of hormone therapy matter.

Your individual benefits and risks deserve to be part of the conversation.

If you decided years ago that hormones weren't safe for you, I'm not saying you should take them.

I'm saying that if you're still experiencing symptoms, it may be worth discussing your options with your healthcare provider again.

Not because the answer should automatically be yes.

Because you deserve to make an informed decision using current information, not fear alone.

💬 Have your thoughts about hormone therapy changed over the years? We'd love to hear your perspective.
