What’s growing in your garden? I am sharing a few pics of my 3rd year herb garden. When we moved to the top of a dry rocky ridge this area was overrun by a type of invasive herb in the honeysuckle family. The first year was spent removing it and bringing in compost. The 2nd year we hooked up to the community well and got water on our land, so we hauled in more compost, soil, manure and made lasagna beds. We also had to cut back the oak tree limbs that were shading the garden. We established medicinal perennial herbs, culinary herbs, natives, medicinal “weeds”, raspberries, elderberries, strawberries, black currants, & muscadine grapes. We also added in clovers and vetch for green manures. Here we are at year 3, a thriving & almost self maintaining garden. This garden brings me so much joy & healing 💚💚💚
This is the product that launched our entire business in 2012. My husband Brad, was working as a stone mason and his hands were always cracked. He was buying a container of badger balm weekly from the local health food store. Badger had started their business years ago in the kitchen on their farm. This gave me a great idea! We had moved to a farm, planted a medicinal herb garden and I loved to wild craft, so I went about formulating a healing balm for Brad’s hands. Smell Retraining Therapy (SRT) Is a treatment for loss of smell developed in 2009 by Dr. Thomas Hummel at the University of Dresden.
The process of SRT involves smelling four different essential oils several times a day. This stimulates the olfactory system and establish memory of that smell. Start with 4 scents you remember. Recommend oils are Rose (fruity) although I am using Geranium instead, Lemon (fruity), Clove (spicy), Eucalyptus (resinous). Take sniffs of each scent for 10-20 seconds twice a day. Focus, concentrate on your memory of that smell. After each scent take a few breaths and move onto the next fragrance. Do this for 12 weeks or longer. SRT is believed to work as a combo of the unique ability for small nerve to regrow well encouraging improved brain connectivity.

Earlier this week we distilled 10 pounds of organically grown Kapoor Tulsi from Middle Fork Farms in Fayetteville, AR. We love to support other organic growers, farms, and ethical wildcrafters to source plant material for our hydrosol distillations. We obtained 3 gallons of Tulsi hydrosol from this distillation for our face toners and herbal body products.
Tulsi is known as “The Queen of Herbs” and in Sanskrit “The Incomparable One”. Tulsi has been revered for 1000’s of years in South Asia as a holy and sacred plant. Used in Ayurvedic Medicine as an adaptogenic herb that offers antioxidant benefits, cancer protection, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Beer brewing originated over 10,000 years ago in Mesopotamia at the Godin Tepe settlement when agriculture first developed in the region, which is now known as modern day Iran. The original beer brewers were women, the priestesses of Ninkari, they brewed beer regularly in the home as a part of meal preparation. Beer was made from bippar (twice baked barley bread) it was then fermented and drank with a straw (which may actually be the origin of the straw). It’s the perfect day to make a solar garden herbal infusion 🤩 I added Calendula blossoms, red clover blossoms, chamomile, borage blossoms, catnip, mugwort, raspberry leaf, lemon balm, peppermint, holy basil, comfrey, and motherwort to a quart jar, filled with water and set it out in the sunshine for the day. This should be an interesting combo. It sure does smell good! Update: Cleared my head and sent me into happy land. Almost took a nap, but stayed awake to enjoy the relaxing dreaminess of this combo.
