Liver fat and liver scarring are different, and understanding both is central to assessing liver health.

For Liver Awareness Month, Texas Liver Care’s Patient Education Series explores how non-invasive testing helps us assess and monitor liver disease. Liver stiffness measurement (LSM) helps estimate the degree of scarring and can be obtained using several technologies, including FibroScan, visualized transient elastography (ViTE), and ultrasound shear-wave elastography.

This week’s video features FibroScan to explain the differences between steatosis, fibrosis, and cirrhosis, what CAP and kPa measurements mean, and how we interpret these results in the context of each patient’s health.

Understanding your numbers, and how they change over time, can help guide your care.

Texas Liver Care completed 31 FibroScans in three hours at today’s Ambetter Health Fair at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, using one machine.

Through TLC’s Know Your Liver initiative, many more attendees received liver health education, informational materials, and guidance on connecting with care.

Eight participants had readings suggesting significant liver fibrosis, including two concerning for cirrhosis. These findings warrant further evaluation.

Those we could not accommodate received contact information for Evidentis Clinical Research to arrange a complimentary FibroScan.

Couldn’t attend today? Call Evidentis Clinical Research at (682) 651-1112 to arrange a complimentary FibroScan.

Thank you to Ambetter Health Insurance for hosting, to our team for supporting today’s outreach, and to the many enthusiastic volunteers from across healthcare who came together to serve the community.

As we continue marking Liver Awareness Month at Texas Liver Care, this week’s focus is cirrhosis.

Cirrhosis refers to advanced scarring of the liver. It does not automatically mean liver failure or that transplantation is inevitable. Many people live for years with stable liver function and good quality of life.

As part of TLC’s Patient Education Series, this week’s video explains compensated and decompensated cirrhosis, why blood tests alone do not tell the whole story, and the importance of treating the underlying cause, preventing complications, and monitoring for liver cancer.

As part of TLC’s Patient Education Series, this week’s video explains these conditions, how they are diagnosed and why careful, lifelong management matters.
