Is intuitive eating just eating whatever you want?
Well... yes and no. 😂
One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that intuitive eating means throwing nutrition out the window, eating whatever sounds good in the moment, and never thinking about your health again.
But that’s not really what it’s about.
Intuitive eating isn’t about abandoning nutrition. It’s about changing your relationship with food so that nutrition, enjoyment, satisfaction, and your body’s needs can ALL have a seat at the table.
Here’s what that actually looks like:
🥑 It’s allowing ALL foods. No more assigning moral value to what you eat or labeling foods as good or bad.
🍕 It’s honoring cravings and preferences. You don’t have to talk yourself out of wanting pizza because you think you should want a salad.
🥗 It’s also recognizing that nutrition matters. Your body needs nourishment, variety, and consistency. Eating intuitively includes learning how to support those needs.
🧠 It’s considering the bigger picture. Sometimes you want the brownie. Sometimes you want something that will keep you satisfied for longer. Sometimes you want both. (Honestly, both is a pretty solid option.)
❤️ It’s learning to trust yourself. Instead of relying on a list of food rules to tell you what, when, and how much to eat, you learn to make food decisions based on your hunger, fullness, preferences, satisfaction, and nutritional needs.
The goal isn’t to eat whatever you want without ever considering nutrition.
The goal is to stop feeling like you have to CONTROL everything you eat in order to be healthy.
Because food peace and taking care of your body can absolutely coexist.
And no, you don’t need another set of food rules to get there.
