Tuesday Tip 🐾
🎃 KEEP YOUR DOG SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN

Trick-or-treaters are coming—and an open door can give your dog a chance to slip out!

Before the visitors arrive, settle your dog in a comfortable room with the door securely closed.

🐾 Play soft music to help soften outside noises.
🐾 Offer a favorite toy or a safe chew.
🐾 Remind family and guests to keep your dog’s room closed.

A little preparation can prevent a lost dog.

Education is Prevention. Prevention saves Lives.

Winter is almost upon us

The Northwest CT Emergency Cold Weather Shelter will open for the season on 1 December 2026. It will be open every night until 15 April 2027.

NW CT YMCA's amazing staff will be running the Shelter again this season.

Shelter Guest check in will start nightly at 7:00 pm and Shelter Guests will leave no later than 8:00 am. People needing shelter should call 211 before coming.

Cold Weather Emergencies will be partially housed at Trinity's Upper Parish Hall during this season. In a slight change, Torrington City Hall will be the primary warming center on weekdays during Cold Weather Emergencies as declared by the Governor. The Emergency Shelter will open when Torrington City Hall closes at 4:00 pm during Cold Weather Emergencies. The Upper Parish Hall will serve as a Warming Center 24/7 on weekends (when Torrington City Hall is closed) during Cold Weather Emergencies.

We are honored to be able to once again provide this service to our community members in need of shelter and are grateful to the wonderful work which the YMCA and its staff do to make this program work. We are also grateful for our partnerships with the Torrington Fire and Police Departments, without whose work this program would not succeed. We are honored by this opportunity to provide hospitality in the name of Christ and hope that all who enter our doors will feel welcomed in His love.

We are closed today while KDF Tree is here cleaning up our storm debris from July and getting ready for whatever kind of Winter storms are headed our way!
UPDATE:
The guys got SO much done today! Don't hire me as an estimator - I would have thought that was going to take a full two days to get 40 trees down but they got it all done in less than 8 hours! The crew was in high gear all day today!
Four trucks, four pieces of heavy equipment designed for this kind of job, six guys working in two crews, at least four chainsaws going…
Having the right equipment for the project makes ALL the difference in both safety and efficiency!

Our day to volunteer for Brian's Angels Homeless Outreach!
Brian's Angels has a new TINY temporary location! They are trying to get food to the most in-need folks in Bristol Thursdays - Sundays.

There are many new procedures as they navigate these changes and search for a larger location!

They have NO space to store snacks or assemble snack bags at the new location! If you can help, sign up for a day at https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/1o1d0q OR send supplies through the Amazon Wish List at https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2HWU1OOOVM3NF/ref=nav_wishlist_lists_2 OR donate to their GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/acfeb0ebd so they can find a larger permanent location!
