Towncrest Pharmacy, located in Iowa City and Solon, is hosting a COVID-19 vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Solon United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 122 N. West Street, Solon.

The clinic is reserved for individuals who are 65 years of age or older and is by appointment only. Only individuals being vaccinated may come into the center unless assistance is needed. Insurance cards and a driver’s license or government-issued ID are required at the time of appointment.

To schedule an appointment, visit https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=21141420&appointmentType=20712578

Towncrest Pharmacy is part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. The program is part of the Federal government’s strategy to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines for all. The program is based on the available vaccine supply and works with select retail pharmacy locations providing COVID-19 vaccine to eligible individuals. As vaccine availability increases over time, the program will expand.

The clinic is in collaboration with Johnson County Emergency Management Agency, Johnson County Public Health, Solon United Methodist Church, the City of Solon, Solon Senior Advocates and Solon community members.

Danger!

I know that it has been awhile since I have published anything new. For that I am sorry. COVID-19 has been a challenging time for most industries, and pharmacy has not been an exception. I have broken out my keyboard, however, because the pandemic has created an alarming sentinel event everyone in pharmacy should be aware of immediately. This is an event of significance; an event that could lead to another lost opportunity for the pharmacy industry....

We have had several calls asking about a letter from WellCare which states that Towncrest Pharmacy will not be "in network" in 2021.

This information is both accurate and incomplete. WellCare has a total of 6 different plans in 2021. Two of these plans list Towncrest Pharmacy as "Out of Network" while the remaining 4 plans continue to list us as In Network. If you like your current WellCare benefits, there are several plans that you can use in 2021 that enable you to continue to use Towncrest Pharmacies.

The 2021 WellCare plans that include Towncrest Pharmacy as IN NETWORK are:

• WellCare Value Script (PDP)
• WellCare Classic (PDP)
• WellCare Medicare Rx Saver (PDP)
• WellCare Medicare Rx Value Plus (PDP)

Please note that there is a further designation called "Preferred." I have been informed that WellCare has excluded ALL independent pharmacies from their "preferred" networks for 2021.

It is important to understand that even though we are not a preferred pharmacy in the WellCare family of plans, these plans can still be your best value while continuing to use Towncrest Pharmacy. Additionally, there are several plans where Towncrest Pharmacy enjoys preferred status, and these are viable options for those patients that want to continue to use our pharmacy.

We are providing free consultations for best 2021 plans at this point. Call or stop in and we can help you understand your options for next year!

Iowa City Update:

Our phones appear to be working properly again as we are now receiving some calls.

Solon Update:

Solon's power, phone and internet are still down this morning. Solon Towncrest Pharmacy is open using an emergency generator. The store is dark but the computers are up and able to fill your prescriptions. If you need a new medication, have your doctor physically WRITE a prescription (yes, back to the dark ages!) as we still cannot receive electronic prescriptions, faxes, or phone calls.

Solon Update:

We now are running on generator power, which means that we can fill prescriptions with some limitations -- mostly related to the continued lack of phone service and internet connectivity.

1) all sales can be done only by cash or check -- until we get internet connectivity back we cannot process credit cards.

2) we cannot adjudicate your insurance until we get internet back. We will have to settle any copays with you at a later date.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Our Iowa City Store continues to have phone service issues; service in the area has been sporadic since the storm Monday. We can call out, but you may get a busy signal calling us.

Our Iowa City location is open and has power (but phones continue to be a problem).

Our Solon Store currently has NO power. Bring in your old bottle if you need a refill and they will work to ensure you have what you need. For more emergent needs including new prescriptions, you can stop by our Iowa City location.

The Art of the Direct Contract

PBMs came into being as a convenience service that originated when third party prescription benefits began to emerge. Pharmacies were required to send paper claims to insurance for reimbursement. This was a time-consuming process, both in the preparation of the submissions and the time to receive payment. The fledgeling PBM industry enabled pharmacies to submit claims electronically, get instant approval and get paid faster. [ 680 more words ]

Re-opening?

This week, there have been numerous states that have began the process of re-opening non-essential businesses. There are valid arguments both for and against these decisions, but ultimately the decisions are being made for political and financial reasons. State and local government tax revenues during the shut-down are essentially non-existent in many jurisdictions. Unlike the federal government, which can essentially create money from thin air, the states need tax revenue to operate, and without an active economy their budgets are in intensive care on ventilators. Drug Price Changes

I have been hearing complaints about Allowable Drug Prices (ADPs) in the pharmacy community for years. Most recently, I have listened as pharmacists have described significant prices drops on medications during the current Covid-19 pandemic. The trouble with these prices, and by extension, any complaints about them, is that most ADPs are MAC (Maximum Allowable Cost) applied to generic medications, and these are considered proprietary information by the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). Although we won't be walking side by side this year, we can still walk together!!
Towncrest pharmacy, you need to list an email address on your website. I personally prefer to contact by email.
Way to go Iowa, need more states to raise a ruckus!! The Rxmafia needs to be humbled quite a bit, better yet dismantled, PBM’s as they are today, serve no useful purpose except to leach money away from the healthcare spending..
You really need to provide an email address to contact you at. I for one hate calling on telephone. I feel much more comfortable emailing.
Do you guys carry wrist splints and braces?
