Our Story
March 2016
Deb Brown was added to the list of those in need of a liver transplant. To qualify for the transplant, Deb had to undergo a series of qualifications, including a current tetanus shot, tuberculosis vaccine, dental screenings, and other various medical testing.
July 2016
After 4 months, Deb was listed as "active" on the list of those waiting for a liver transplant in the United States. Deb's condition worsened as it was affecting her daily life - she couldn't eat, she couldn't sleep, and she struggled with her breathing.
November 2016
Deb was contacted by the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinic's Transplant Center that there was a liver available to her that matched her needs. With a sense of urgency and long-awaited anticipation, Deb and Ed traveled to Iowa City for the procedure. After the 11-hour surgery, Deb had a new liver.
April 2017
The Dragonfly Transplant Fund through the University of Iowa Center for Advancement was born in collaboration with Dr. Reed at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic's Transplant Center.
