Bk2TheGarden Products, custom blends, and classes. Formal training in Asian medicine is at the core of all we do. I was learning too!

My Story
Early in life I used to sit on the floor and listen to the Watkins man as he educated and sold my Grandma on herbal and homeopathic products. At that time it was everyday care products for a healthy life. Around 7-8 years old I would use my little brothers empty baby food jars to stuff leaves and organic matter into to “see what would happen”. My grandma's spices were not safe from my mixing experiments and sometimes neither was the scented talcum powder. What can I say….I’m still here doing the same thing. It’s way past time to re-claim our response-ability for caring for our daily health. Bk2thegarden is my way of engaging you and passing on some of what I’ve learned in my adventure. Tips from those early days will be periodically shared here where you too, can learn from my grandma. Learning where we came from will merge with where we are going, using the tools we learn today. My beautiful cousin/sister Sandy says that “ Life is a continuous journey leading you back to the beginning” I think she’s right! So welcome to Bk2thegarden; join us for the adventure!

The Missouri Prairie Foundation (MPF), a 60-year-old land trust that protects prairie and other native grasslands, has learned about Jackson County, Missouri’s recent surplus designation (Resolution 22345) and Request for Proposals (RFP 26-057) of county-owned properties along Blue River Road. This proposed sale includes the Blue River Glades, pictured below, a designated Missouri Natural Area since 1983 that represents the best limestone glade natural community remaining in the Kansas City area. Chaco canyon is heritage we can’t lose. If you want to know your future you must know your past.

Donald Trump and Steve Pearce want to open up Chaco Canyon to new mineral leasing, oil and gas wells, and pipelines that would cause irreversible damage, destroy Chaco, and erase centuries of history—and they only gave us 14 days to make our voices heard and fight back.

Their attempt to profit off this sacred place shows a complete disregard for the history, culture, and communities that make Chaco so important. Chaco deserves lasting protection — for Tribal Nations, for New Mexico, and for future generations.

Make your voice heard! I just submitted my comment and you can too, the last day to submit public comment is July 29th.

Heads up!!

Kansas City is giving out money to help grow more food close to home. 🌱

The city just opened its 2026 PLANT Grant (Promoting Local Agriculture and Neighborhood Transformation), which funds community gardens and urban farms that expand local food production and make fresh food easier to get.

Here is what you can get:
Up to $5,000 for new farms or gardens open less than 2 years
Up to $5,000 for projects that received a PLANT Grant before
Up to $10,000 for established farms running 3 years or longer

Awarded projects get 50 percent of the money up front, and all funds have to be spent within 9 months.

To qualify, your project has to be inside Kansas City, Missouri city limits and support at least one program goal (growing more food, improving fresh food access, or advancing regenerative agriculture). Community gardens and orchards planning to work with Kansas City Community Gardens also need to finish a site assessment first.

Applications are open through September 21. Comment “FARM” to get a link!

We might get some relief today, but if you heard me say once you heard me say it a 1000 times “ a rainy day is worth celebrating because I don’t run irrigation ”
