What no one tells you about Endometriosis surgery.
Many gynecologists simply aren’t trained in excision surgery. Their specialty is general gynecologic care, which may include delivering babies, but that doesn’t mean they have the specialized training needed to excise complex Endometriosis.
And if they don’t know what they don’t know, they can’t tell you what you need to look for
Not every gynecologist that’s says they’re a “specialist” is an actual excising Endometriosis surgeon.
And many women are never told to seek out someone who does.
It took me A YEAR to understand the difference between ablation and excision.
Imagine an iceberg. 🧊
What you see above the water is only part of it. There’s more beneath the surface.
Ablation destroys the visible surface of Endometriosis lesions. Excision involves surgically cutting out lesions, including their depth when appropriate. The right approach depends on the disease and the individual.
And I learned just how much can be missed.
A year before my excision, I had surgery and was told there was nothing wrong with the right side of my pelvis.
A YEAR LATER, during my excision surgery, I was told my right pelvic wall was a GAPING HOLE where my pelvic wall should have been and so much more.
Let that sink in.
I had Stage 4 Endometriosis and a partially frozen pelvis.
I saw one of the top excision surgeons in the country. He didn’t deliver babies. His specialty was the kind of surgery I needed.
He did my surgery. But the rest was up to me.
I had to learn what happened AFTER surgery.
I had to look at my food, my stress, my sleep, my mindset and the daily habits that made up my life.
Surgery was a turning point. But learning how to live differently became a huge part of my journey.
Ten years after my final excision, I’m living a life I once couldn’t imagine.
That’s why I teach women with Endometriosis the strategies I learned along the way.
Because finding the right surgeon matters. And understanding how to support your body after surgery matters, too.
💛 Comment STRATEGY and I’ll share the four areas I focused on to transform my life after excision surgery.
