ABOUT "Mindful Kindful YOUniversity" ~
Sound Healing / Drum Circles / Retreats

Mindful ~ Kindful ~ Peaceful: The moment to moment practices to transform our lives into harmony with our true nature. Flowing and Growing Through Life: Everything is energy and energy is transforming. Season gently transforming to the next season, daylight into the darkness of night, windy storms settling into stillne

ss. A fallen leaf eventually becomes part of the earth, a fallen pine cone becomes food, or a seed becomes a tree or a flower. What may seem like the end is actually the becoming of something new. Energy becoming. Who have you become? Who are you becoming? Life has a way of bringing up this question again and again as we confront both daily challenges and life-changing events. What if who you are becoming, or hope to become, is also about un-becoming everything that isn’t really you so you can discover, or re-discover, your true nature and how you want to show up in life no matter what obstacles may appear - in health, relationships, or other life circumstances. "It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey." ~Wendell Berry

The word university is derived from the Latin word universus, meaning “whole, entire.” Mindful Kindful YOUniversity (MK YOU) is the study of YOU and your whole-being on this journey of life. Learn and practice how to navigate and flow through life moment to moment in a healthy, balanced, and positive way for mental and physical health and well-being. Your well-being is the most important education you will ever receive in the school of life. Learn pragmatic, simple evidence-based practices to navigate the ups and downs of daily living and positively support you in responding to life as it is — the good stuff, the tough stuff, all of it — with grace and the skills to be mindful, kindful, and peaceful. Experience for yourself how these practices and essential life skills of mindfulness, heartfulness, supported by nature and sound energy, can be the foundation for greater strength, resilience, health, and happiness. I would be honored to be your guide.

When you realize it's "Friday the 13th" what is your response? Do you have unpleasant thoughts or bodily reactions? Friday the 13th is often associated with superstitions and negative beliefs, but there are many positive ways to view this day, and that's what I choose to do:

Day of New Beginnings:
Since 13 is linked to cycles of nature (there are 13 lunar cycles in a year), Friday the 13th can be a day to embrace fresh starts, new projects, or new intentions—particularly related to personal growth or mindfulness.

Celebration of the Divine Feminine:
In many ancient cultures, the number 13 was associated with feminine energy, fertility, and the moon. Friday, named after the goddess F***g or Venus, is also linked to love and beauty. This combination can be seen as a time to honor creativity, intuition, and self-care.

Day of Empowerment:
Instead of viewing Friday the 13th as unlucky, it can be reframed as a day to challenge fears and embrace empowerment. Shifting your mindset away from superstition is an act of resilience, showing that you have the ability to create your own luck and destiny.

Gratitude Practice:
Use the day to reflect on all the good things in your life and cultivate gratitude. Gratitude can transform even the most negative associations into opportunities for positivity and growth.

A Day of Mindfulness:
Friday the 13th can serve as a reminder to let go of superstitions, focus on the present, and practice mindfulness. Turn it into a celebration of awareness and positive energy. By shifting focus from the fear of the unknown to a celebration of life’s cycles, Friday the 13th can become a day of reflection, growth, and empowerment.

Have a magical day and spectacular weekend. I hope I get to see you! ~ Dee DiGioia

"'Slow' and 'down' are modes of the soul; they are connective modes, ways of keeping connected to oneself and to one’s environment. 'Slowing downwards' refers to more than simply moving slowly, it means growing down towards the roots of one’s being. Instead of outward growth and upward climb, life at times must turn inward and downward in order to grow in other ways. There is a shift to the vertical down that re-turns us to root memories, root metaphors, and timeless things that shape our lives from within. Slowing downwards creates opportunities to dwell more deeply in one’s life, for the home we are looking for in this world is within us all along. The lost home that we are seeking is ourselves; it is the story we carry within our soul." - ~Michael Meade

This year I retired from special education. It wasn't on again off again love affair. I loved working with the students. It meant everything to me. But working in the public school system wore me down over and over. Spit me out. Burned me out. I have found so much peace through offering sound healing and rhythmic drumming experiences in the giving and receiving. Discover what you were meant to do. Experience peace like no other. Meanwhile, I hope our paths cross so I can share beautiful energy with you.

SUNDAY: Loving Kindness Sound Journey/ Baywood-Los Osos/ Registration https://mkyou.as.me/

“I am making a home inside myself.
A shelter of kindness where everything is forgiven, everything allowed—a quiet patch of sunlight to stretch out without hurry,
where all that has been banished and buried is welcomed, spoken, listened to—released.
A fiercely friendly place I can claim as my very own.
I am throwing arms open to the whole of myself—especially the fearful, fault-finding, falling apart, unfinished parts, knowing
every seed and w**d, every drop of rain, has made the soil richer.
I will light a candle, pour a hot cup of tea, gather
around the warmth of my own blazing fire. I will howl
if I want to, knowing this flame can burn through
any perceived problem, any prescribed perfectionism,
any lying limitation, every heavy thing.
I am making a home inside myself
where grace blooms in grand and glorious
abundance, a shelter of kindness that grows
all the truest things.”

We had another joyful drumming session at Casa de Flores Assisted Living today. We shared laughter and beautiful instruments. One of the residents shared that she loved how she could feel the resonance in her body! How beautiful is that? Another resident said it took her back to earlier days when she went to an African Village where only the women played. Another said "I hope you come back!" My heart is full. ❤️🪘

love this ~ feel into it

Our sadness is pure
and necessary
to being human.

Intense sorrow over
long periods of time, however,
can cause us to feel
separated from life.

We begin to feel somewhat
removed from vitality and
need tactile associations to
remind us we are still an essential
part of everything yet living.

Looking is one thing—
and just as we must feel
and not think our way
through grief and sorrow,
sometimes we must begin
to feel our way back to life.

Touch the season where you are.

Lean into the
springtime breeze.
Make bodily contact
with the breadth of your
sensuous surroundings.
Feel the mist and rain
wet your skin and mingle
with your tears.
Caress the supple petals
of a summer flower.
Run your fingers
through the sands.
Brush your feet against
the lush, dense grass.
Verge with the cold wind as
it sweeps across your face,
and meet the softly
falling snow.
Feel where you are in
your melancholy,
sadness or sorrow
within the season it resides—
in its moment—
then also meld with
the continuity of nature
and all things breathing
and thriving
and here to always
remind you:

You are alive.
You are connected.

Pause and reflect on
your own life and linger
inside its significance.

Your feelings are precious.
What you grieve is precious.
And you are precious.

Have you always wondered what it would be like to be part of a drum circle?  If you’ve felt the call to drum but hesitated, this is your opportunity to explore in a welcoming, non-judgmental space.  Come experience the joy of being part of the collective energy.

We have lots of new Joyful Rhythm events scheduled for this month! These are facilitated drum circles. No experience is necessary! I'll bring the drums (or bring one if you have one) and I'll guide you on a rhythmic journey! We're even launching a new class for neurodiverse teens and adults!

Our drum circles are a celebration of life, love, and the healing energy of community. Rooted in ancient traditions and supported by modern evidence-based practices, these gatherings offer holistic benefits for your body, mind, and spirit. Whether you seek stress relief, emotional release, or simply a moment of pure joy, these sessions nourish every aspect of your being.

I'm so excited to partner up with the new Casa de Veda in downtown San Luis Obispo (near corner of Broad and Higuera) next Tuesday at 5pm where I will offer a Sound Journey experience. Embark on a sacred journey of sound, where the vibrations of the universe meet the depths of your soul. Our transformational Sound Journeys are designed to guide you into a state of profound rest, relaxation, and healing, nurturing your wellness and creativity on every level of your being. Often referred to as ‘sound healing’ or a ‘sound bath,’ this experience immerses you in a sea of sound vibrations that gently cleanse your energy, restore harmony, and bring you back into alignment with your natural, healthy vibrational state. Afterward, we'll share reflections on a thematic inspirational topic and set intentions. 09/03/2024

I just returned from a significant training in Hawaii for drum facilitation and I am navigating reintegration back into life as it is. Catching up, making plans... so I am trying to be very gentle with this re- emergence! Lots of good stuff coming up so I need to make all the graphics and event invitations and yet it's sunny outside and I want to be outside -lol.

Returning from a transformative journey or training can feel overwhelming as you navigate the process of reintegration into daily life. The profound experiences and insights gained during your travels may linger within you, creating a sense of dissonance as you readjust to familiar routines and responsibilities.

The contrast between the profound moments of growth and self-discovery experienced during your training and the demands of everyday life can be stark, leaving you feeling emotionally and mentally stretched. It's common to grapple with a mix of emotions, ranging from nostalgia for the transformative journey to uncertainty about how to apply the newfound wisdom and insights in your daily life

As you navigate this period of reintegration, it's essential to grant yourself patience, compassion, and space for reflection. Allow yourself to honor the growth you have undergone and acknowledge the emotions that arise during this transition. Embracing self-care practices, such as journaling, meditation, or engaging in activities that nourish your soul, can support you in grounding yourself and finding balance amidst the whirlwind of emotions and experiences.

Remember that the journey of integration is a gradual process that unfolds at its own pace. By honoring the lessons learned during your training and finding ways to apply them in your daily life, you can harness the transformative power of your experiences to cultivate a deeper sense of alignment, purpose, and fulfillment as you move forward on your path.

Wishing you a gentle and beautiful day as you navigate through your own life. I hope our paths cross soon. Watch for our upcoming sound journeys, drum circles, and nature- based mindfulness events coming up throughout San Luis Obispo County. If you would like to host an event, let me know!

It was a thrill for me to gift a sound journey experience for our drumming training group in Hawaii. Someone who lives on the island let me use her instruments. At first I was a little nervous since I had never used her instruments before but it was easy to slip into inviting the sounds to play out and soothe everyone into bliss.

I'm back home and ready to get back to our public and private sound journeys in SLO County 😊❤️ ( based out of Baywood Los Osos but will travel) https://mindfulkindfulyouniversity.com/sound-journey/

How serendipitous that I drew this tarot card on my first day at our drum facilitation camp in Hawaii! (Our training was not about Hawaiian culture, we did have a 30 year resident support us with some traditional prayers and information. She brought different tarot cards daily. The card I pulled explained that “pahu” (meaning drum in Hawaiian) is a type of drum indigenous to Hawai’i and used with hula dancing. When "pahu" appears it is time to celebrate the sacred. Sometimes when our lives become busy and hectic we forget to take time to celebrate that which is most precious.

Take a moment to pause, breathe, and bring to mind and heart something that is precious to you. Feel the rhythm of your own heartbeat as you take in the warmth and good feelings this brings to you and give thanks. Mahalo!

A little notebook in our swag bag at a drum facilitator training in Hawaii. One year ago I had no idea I would be pursuing drumming facilitation when I never touched a drum prior to then. I've jumped all in, with courage and curiosity and gratitude for this journey. My drumming circles today date have been so special but I can't wait to apply the things I'll be learning this week so that I can go out with more confidence and skills to help those willing to give it a try and experience the profound benefits of drumming in community. ❤️ Lots of photos and videos coming for the training over the next 6 days!
