The Secrets of ‘Cognitive Super-Agers’

Also important is to maintain good hearing, said Dr. Perls, a 60-year-old who wears a hearing aid. “I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for people to optimize their ability to hear,” he said. “There’s a direct connection between hearing and preserving cognitive function. Being stubborn about wearing hearing aids is just silly. Hearing loss results in cognitive loss because you miss so much. You lose touch with your environment.”

By studying centenarians, researchers hope to develop strategies to ward off Alzheimer’s disease and slow brain aging for all of us.

As the country begins to move toward normalcy, we kindly ask for your help a while longer.

The CDC strongly recommends that medical practices continue to follow the current safety protocols. This is in order to protect our vulnerable patients and staff who are not able to be vaccinated. Our mission is to provide ALL patients with the highest quality, safest care possible – right now, that necessitates:

*Requiring staff and patients to wear masks while in our office, even those who are fully vaccinated

*Practicing physical distancing

*Screening patients, visitors and staff for Covid symptoms

The current research shows that safety protocols, such as masking, can protect the most vulnerable people in our communities. Therefore, we will continue to follow these guidelines until the pandemic is under greater control or if evidence-based science finds these procedures are no longer recommended. As soon as it is deemed safe for medical practices to roll-back Covid safety protocols, we will do so.

We appreciate our patients and hope the inconvenience is understood to be for the protection of all patients and our staff. Thank you for trusting us with your hearing care.

If you have questions about our Covid safety protocols, please contact our office (470) 485-4327.

ChEARS to five yEARS!! It’s our birthday today 🎉🎉🎉 There is a 45% chance that a small business gets to make it to this milestone. Five years ago, Josh Wikoff and I took a leap of faith to start our private audiology practice from scratch and we’ve developed it into a thriving piece of our community. Our family is so very grateful to everyone who helped bring us to this point. To Hannah Kaizer and Steven Michael Mooney, our original CFOs, who spent many late nights in Atlanta teaching me accounting until we found Kevin Wilensky. To Linda Halpern Weinroth who referred our first real client and to Dr. Peggy Miller Marbach who referred our most recent. To Jared Seff, Traci Weinroth Flome, Richard Starcher and David Greenberg, Michele Nudelman, Dr. Kate McArthur Marr, Jeff (Gail Barrick Lutin) and Al Davidson who spent time advising and coaching me when it was all just an idea. To Karen and Michael Saul and Shelly Eisenstadt for being our original models. To Ali Halperin O'Leary for creating our logo and for all of our photos. To Dr. Stephen Nagler, Dr. Maureen Valente, Drew Tutton (Cobb Chamber) and Dr. Jill Meltzer for being incredible mentors. To Judy Lutin Mooney and Susan Rasof-Wikoff for being our biggest cheerleaders. To my Hal Mooney, my ultimate inspiration, for letting me shadow you at Hopmeadow Animal Hospital and learn firsthand not only what it’s like to run a practice but to truly care for the people that you serve. To Amy Neuman, Anat Granath, and Emily Papera for helping me develop our Hearing for Holocaust survivors program that is my greatest joy. To Dr. Brian (Marnie Nadolne) Nadolne and Dr. Lisa Lefkovits for being the first physicians to welcome us to East Cobb and for your confidence in Peachtree Hearing to help others hear better and find relief from tinnitus. To Jonathan Lyons for helping us hang on when we had to close during the pandemic. To Dr. Stacey Weitzner and family for helping us get vaccinated and giving us our home at Parkaire Medical Center. To the brilliant teachers like Stephanie Wachtel Lisa Feifer Furie Ronnye Shifman Miller and all the rest who nourished our real kiddos in the early days of starting our business while we worked long hours. To Ben Tripp who will vote for us no matter the contest. To every single patient of ours who made the decision to trust me with their hearing care and to shop small. We obviously won’t be having the big party we would have loved to have thrown this year, but you can be sure we will make up for it as soon as it is safe to do so. To all of our patients and friends at Peachtree Hearing- this one’s for you!! To every single one of you who has taken a moment to write us a google review, sent us a friend or family member, or visited us yourself, thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! All our love and gratitude, Josh Wikoff and Melissa Mooney Wikoff

How it Started Vs. How it’s Going Pandemic Hearing Aid Version: Swipe to see the progress!
Our sweet patient’s husband was worried that his wife, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, might lose her hearing aids when she takes off her mask. He got inventive and used some red gift wrapping ribbon to tie them together. He told me the material was very appropriate since they consider the hearing aids to be such a gift in helping her communicate better! The only problem was it was starting to scratch by the tops of her ears. There isn’t a great solution for masks and behind-the-ear hearing aids other than upgrading to in-the-ear technology and these are fairly new devices. So I gifted them a special Otoclip and a mask that goes behind your head instead of on your ears. She felt much more free and still confident her devices weren’t going anywhere! #hearingaids

Emerging evidence links COVID-19 with tinnitus and hearing problems

“The review found hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo can all be associated with COVID-19 and the researchers are currently conducting a year-long study to better understand the long-term effects of the disease on hearing.”

A new systematic review investigating published research on the relationship between COVID-19 and hearing problems is suggesting a number of audio-vestibular symptoms can be associated with the disease. The review found hearing loss, tinnitus and vertigo can all be associated with COVID-19 and the.....

Yes, Melissa is my daughter (in-law) AND my audiologist. I have otosclerosis and hear very little without my hearing aids. Melissa has helped to give me soooo much more help hearing with the hearing aids she recommended. I am so grateful for her advice and help; I am able to work, talk on the telephone, listen to music, watch tv, go to movies and my favorite concerts. I was very frustrated with my hearing aids before knowing Melissa....now, I can even hear whispers!!!! LOVE YOU, MELISSA
Peachtree Hearing I'm going to try to keep this brief. But, I must HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Melissa Wikoff. For years, I've suffered severe, at times mind blowing, tinnitus. I've been dismissed by innumerable doctors. I saw Dr. Wikoff today and my life is changed! She fit me with hearing aids. Yep. I'm too young, right? Apparently not. I have enough hearing loss, that accompanied with tinnitus has made every day situations miserable. She tested me, used some very advanced hearing aids and VOILA...I'm getting my life back. I am so excited I can't stand myself! If you have tinnitus or hearing loss, give yourself the gift of a whole new world! Go see Dr. Wikoff. The icing...she is determined to make your hearing perform at its optimum capacity while being super smart, down to earth and adorable. I can't wait for her to get me fully functioning for work and fun!
Dr. Wikoff exhibits a passion for helping others hear better. Her office staff is superb and she provides personal, one-on-one, interaction with each and every patient. If you are suffering from tinnitus or other hearing challenges, I highly recommend that you schedule an appointment with Dr. Wikoff. She will help you! Jason Graffagnino
Congrats on the award!
My ears miss you guys ❤️
Many years after knowing I needed hearing aids and with the insistence of family I now have them. Dr. Wilkoff took away those negative associations I had. thank you Melissa you have enriched my life by these first time hearing aids. I also relearned that the world is a noisy place but love to hear the birds singing. Missed that without evening knowing. I give her five stars plus. . .
Thank you Melissa Mooney Wikoff! 🍑🌳👂
Helped my mother to hear again. 5 stars!!!
