Happy November! 🍂🍁 The holidays are just around the corner along with cold/flu season!
I just wanted to let everyone know that we have seen an earlier than usual rise in FLU (influenza) cases this year (9% of those tested by Nationwide Children's last week) and that we are seeing a fair number of local CROUP cases. So far, RSV cases have been relatively low, with numbers as expected for this early in the season.
We currently have flu vaccines for all children 6 months and older.
The RSV shot is HIGHLY recommended for all kids under 8 months old, and we currently have it for Medicaid patients and should have it for commercial insurance patients in 2-3 weeks. The local health dept. (Morrow County Health District) does not have RSV shots for commercial insurance, either and I don't believe they are planning to.
There is no vaccine to prevent croup but limiting exposure to those who are ill, wearing a mask to prevent spread, and good hand hygiene can help.
