💙 When a newborn needs intensive care, parents can find themselves facing a lot of questions and emotions.

In this Medical Minute, Dr. Dennis Mujsce, neonatologist at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital, helps families understand why babies may need NICU care, what to expect during a stay and how parents can be part of their baby’s care.

For Maximus Coelho’s family, the NICU was part of the journey after he was born nine weeks early. He spent nearly four weeks in the NICU. Today, at 3, Maximus is thriving and dreaming of becoming a firefighter.

Every NICU journey is different, but families don’t have to navigate it alone. With the opening of the Level II NICU at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center, more newborns who need extra support can receive specialized care closer to home. The Lancaster team works in coordination with Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital for babies who need a higher level of care.

🎗️🏒 A night of hockey, hope and standing together against cancer.

Penn State Health was proud to join the Hershey Bears for Hockey Fights Cancer, bringing our community together to raise awareness, share stories and celebrate the people impacted by cancer.

From the powerful conversations about early detection and advances in treatment to special moments on the ice, it was a meaningful night with an important message: cancer care and research continue to make a difference.

Thank you to the Hershey Bears and everyone who helped make the night special. 💙🐻

🧔‍♂️ The beards are growing — and so is the impact!

For the 11th straight year, No Shave November is raising funds for urologic cancer care and research at Penn State Health. Since 2016, this community-driven campaign has raised more than $1.6 million to support the work of Dr. Jay Raman, chair of the Department of Urology, and his team.

Those dollars are helping advance early detection, improve diagnostic precision, enhance surgical techniques and expand access to screenings and treatments for prostate, bladder, kidney and other urologic cancers.

So whether you’re growing a beard, cheering on someone who is or making a donation, you can help make a difference for patients across our region.

👻 No tricks, just treats and a whole lot of Halloween fun!

At Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital, the annual Halloween parade brought costumes, candy and plenty of smiles to children spending the holiday in the hospital. Thanks to the Child Life team, trick-or-treat fun came right to patients’ doors.

A big thank-you to Spirit of Children for donating costumes and festive Halloween items to help make the celebration extra special for patients and families. 🎃
