Today is National Arbor Day and at CCPHP, we recognize the importance of making a commitment to our planet to create a healthier, more sustainable future for the next generation.

Air quality is a major determinant of health. The quality of the air can be improved by trees, but the number of trees on our planet decreases year over year due to deforestation. That’s why we worked with Evertreen to plant 1,000 trees, absorb 250 tons of CO2 emissions, and create 125 working hours for farmers in Tanzania.

Stress isn't always a bad thing. In small doses, it enables you to react quickly when faced with challenging or dangerous situations. For example, it motivates you to get that work project done on deadline, or not to drive down that dark alleyway in a sketchy part of town just because it’s a shorter path to your destination.

On the flip side, prolonged stress is well deserving of its bad reputation. Studies prove chronic stress takes a serious toll on your well-being and causes a host of health issues such as sleep problems, heart disease, inflammation, diabetes, weight gain, depression, and memory loss.

A tactic that’s gaining in popularity for its ability to aid in relaxation, stress management, and sleep improvement is mindful practices such as meditation, yoga, and tai chi. At the heart of each of these mindful practices is breathwork.

How many of the decisions you make around food are embedded in routine? If you’re like most people, quite a few. Friday night? It’s takeout pizza. Tuesday night? Tacos. Sunday night? Pot roast. Saturday after errands? Drive-thru burgers. Week in, week out. Predictable to the point of being boring? Yes. Typical? Also, yes.

It’s no wonder you often go on autopilot when it comes to mealtimes. Most of us are tired after a busy day and lack the time needed to plan and shop for food, much less explore new foods and recipes that taste good, are healthy, and include all the food groups you’re trying to hit.
