Toxic ingredients like Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Diethanolamine (DEA), PEG-10 Laurate, and Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) commonly found in makeup and skincare products can have adverse health effects. DBP is often used in nail polishes and has been linked to hormonal disruption and reproductive issues. Studies have suggested that DBP can interfere with normal hormone function, potentially affecting fertility and reproductive development. Additionally, exposure to DBP has been associated with an increased risk of asthma, allergies, and even certain cancers.
DEA is another concerning ingredient that is used as an emulsifier or foaming agent in cosmetics. It can react with other chemicals to form carcinogenic compounds called nitrosamines. Prolonged exposure to DEA and nitrosamines has been linked to liver and kidney damage, as well as an increased risk of certain cancers, such as bladder cancer. Furthermore, DEA can also cause skin and eye irritation, leading to discomfort and potential allergic reactions in some individuals.
PEG-10 Laurate is a synthetic compound commonly found in cleansers and moisturizers. It can act as a pe*******on enhancer, allowing other harmful ingredients to enter the skin more easily. PEG-10 Laurate itself can cause skin irritation and sensitivity, particularly in individuals with pre-existing skin conditions. Moreover, the potential for contamination during the manufacturing process raises concerns about the presence of impurities or toxic byproducts in products containing PEG-10 Laurate.
Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is an antioxidant often used in lipsticks, moisturizers, and other cosmetic products. Although it helps prolong the shelf life of these products, BHA has been classified as a possible human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
