Every session should be a mini assessment. We constantly screen our athletes throughout the season to try and fix any small issues before they become real problems. Shoulder mobility and strength are low hanging fruit that are easy to assess and restore if you stay on top of it. #recovery #physicaltherapy #baseball #pitcher #rehab #armcare #pt #manualtherapy #dryneedling #pitching
Pitching recovery in-season
When you pitch,You lose mobility in your shoulders, forearms and hips. After outings, our initial goals are to fully recovery and restore range of motion and rotator cuff activation. A huge part of restoring range of motion and improving tissue integrity is done through joint mobilization , soft tissue/body work and dry needling. A quick assessment of mobility the day after a start can tell us what areas need the most love. The pecs, lats , rotator cuff, biceps and flexor pronator muscles are common areas of restriction in the upper extremity. The scalenes and traps should be looked at as well. I like to use a combo of IASTM , cupping and dry needling followed by joint mobilization contract-relax techniques. I follow those with positional breathing techniques and end- range holds. In the lower body, the deep hip rotators can really get locked up. I tend to like to dry needle them , as I get can through many layers of muscle , quickly and effectively. I follow those up with lower body correctives to reset the pelvis and end range holds. If you don't get bodywork or assessed , do yourself a favor and try it. Being regularly assessed and addressed, will keep you feeling better throughout the entire season and potentially catch any injuries before they happen.

Proteus Training is a great way to assess and improve rotational power and speed.
Both upper and lower ribcage compression can limit your ability to externally rotate and flex your shoulder. Lower compression can limit thoracic rotation as well.
If your throw feels pushy, you may need to attack the ribcage.
Above are 3 of my favorites if I feel that ribcage compression is a limiting factor..

Proteus Assesment
Football off-season is here. My man and NFL Veteran @abdul_anderson came by for an assessment and is already working on getting better.
@proteusmotion is a great assessment tool and training method to help us identify areas we need to improve on in our sport. Any sport. Not just baseball.
