Happy November 1st!

As we transition into November, nature invites us to slow down, turn inward, and embrace the quieter rhythm of the season.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), November falls within the energetic season of late autumn and the transition into winter, when the Water element begins to take center stage. This is a time to conserve our energy, nourish our reserves, and create space for rest and restoration.

As temperatures drop and daylight becomes shorter, TCM encourages us to live in greater harmony with the natural environment. Rather than pushing through the season at the same pace as the warmer months, this is an opportunity to soften, simplify, and support the body through intentional seasonal practices.

A few ways to welcome November through a TCM lens:

• Nourish with warmth: Incorporate cooked, grounding foods like soups, broths, congee, root vegetables, and warming teas to support digestion and nourish the body.

• Protect your Qi: Prioritize adequate sleep, restorative movement, and moments of stillness. This is a season for conserving energy rather than constantly expending it.

• Support the Lungs and Kidneys: As we move from Metal into Water, continue supporting respiratory health while nurturing the Kidney system, which TCM associates with vitality, longevity, and our foundational reserves.

• Embrace the quieter rhythm: Spend time outdoors, reconnect with nature, reduce unnecessary stimulation, and allow yourself more opportunities for reflection.

• Make space for restoration: Consider practices like acupuncture, therapeutic bodywork, facial treatments, gua sha, and sound healing to support relaxation and reconnect with your body.

Seasonal living is about recognizing that our needs naturally shift throughout the year. November offers an invitation to slow down, replenish, and cultivate the inner resources that carry us through winter.

At Boketto, we believe wellness is not just about caring for the body, but learning to care for it in rhythm with the seasons.

Have you tried natto? This traditional Japanese fermented soybean food is one of the most nutrient-dense additions you can make to your diet.

Natto is especially well known for its impressive vitamin K2 content, beneficial bacteria, and unique enzyme called nattokinase.

A few reasons to give natto a place in your weekly routine:

• Rich in vitamin K2 (MK-7): Supports healthy calcium metabolism and plays an important role in bone health by helping direct calcium into bones and teeth.

• Supports gut health: Natto is fermented with Bacillus subtilis natto, a beneficial bacterium that contributes to its unique probiotic properties.

• Heart and cardiovascular health: Natto contains nattokinase, an enzyme that has been studied for its potential effects on fibrin breakdown and healthy circulation. More human research is needed to establish its clinical benefits.

• Plant-based protein: Soybeans provide complete protein, containing all nine essential amino acids.

• Rich in minerals and nutrients: Provides iron, magnesium, manganese, fiber, and B vitamins.

• Supports bone health: The combination of vitamin K2, protein, and minerals makes natto an especially interesting food for supporting skeletal health.

How to enjoy it: Traditionally served over warm rice with a little tamari, sliced scallions, mustard, or fresh ginger. Its sticky texture and strong, distinctive flavor take a little getting used to, but its nutritional profile makes it worth exploring.

A reminder that sometimes the most powerful additions to our diets aren’t new supplements or superfoods, but traditional foods that have been nourishing cultures for generations. Food as nourishment, always.

Since this is a refrigerated food product, it is only available in-store at Boketto. Come on by and grab a jar while we have them in stock!

FULL MOON IN TA**US | OCTOBER 25th • 6:11pm EST

This Ta**us Full Moon invites us to examine what makes us feel secure, what we hold onto, and what we truly value.

With Pluto’s transformative influence, we may be confronted with patterns of control, attachments, or familiar comforts that no longer support our growth. Where has the desire for stability become resistance to change?

This lunation asks us to release what has grown stagnant, realign with our deepest values, and create space for something more authentic in our lives, relationships, and work.

True security isn’t found in keeping everything the same, but in trusting ourselves enough to embrace transformation.

Full Moon Reflections: What are you ready to release to make room for what truly matters? What areas of your life deserve more comfort, rest, beauty, and grounding?

New on The Journal: UNDERSTANDING EMOTIONAL UNDERCURRENTS (VIA DOLLY PARTON)

What if the Moon could offer insight into the emotional seasons of our lives?

Beyond your sun, moon, and rising signs, astrology offers another layer of self-discovery: the secondary progressed Moon. This technique explores how our emotional needs, relationships, and life experiences evolve over time, reflecting the inner shifts that often accompany major life chapters.

Through the life and legacy of Dolly Parton, our resident astrologer, Christina Lyon of Lua Astrology, shows us how these astrological cycles can mirror moments of growth, love, creative breakthroughs, and the courage to embrace change. From discovering her gifts at a young age to building her career, navigating relationships, and stepping into her own as an artist, Dolly’s story offers a fascinating lens through which to explore the Moon’s influence.

Each phase of the progressed Moon carries its own themes: new beginnings, periods of growth, moments of culmination, and times of release. These cycles remind us that our lives are constantly evolving, and that even the most challenging transitions can create space for something new.

Sometimes, what feels like an ending is actually an invitation to step into a more authentic version of yourself.

Curious about the emotional season you’re in and what your progressed Moon might reveal?

🍐 SPICED STEWED PEARS 🍐

As the weather cools and autumn brings drier air, TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) encourages us to nourish the body with seasonal foods that support balance, digestion, and hydration.

Stewed pears are a beautiful fall staple. In TCM, pears are traditionally associated with moistening the Lungs, nourishing Yin, and helping address dryness, making them a lovely seasonal food as the air becomes cooler and drier. Cooking them with warming ginger and cinnamon adds a comforting touch and balances the cooling nature traditionally attributed to pears.

INGREDIENTS:
* 1–2 fresh, ripe pears, chopped
* A sprinkle of cinnamon
* A few pieces of freshly cut or grated ginger
* ¼ cup filtered water

DIRECTIONS:
1. Add the chopped pears, cinnamon, ginger, and filtered water to a small saucepan.
2. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 4–6 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pears soften and the spices infuse.
3. Serve warm and enjoy as a simple breakfast addition, afternoon snack, or nourishing evening treat.

WHY WE LOVE IT THIS TIME OF YEAR….
🍐 Pears: Naturally rich in water and fiber, including pectin, a soluble fiber that supports digestive health. In TCM, pears are traditionally used to help moisten dryness.

🫚 Ginger: Warming and aromatic, ginger brings a comforting quality to autumn meals and is traditionally used to support digestion.

✨ Cinnamon: Adds gentle warmth and seasonal spice, complementing the pears and ginger.

As we transition into fall, warming, gently cooked foods offer a comforting way to embrace the season while enjoying fiber-rich, nourishing ingredients.

A simple recipe, a few seasonal ingredients, and a moment to slow down.
