Sometimes kids don’t have the words for what they’re feeling.

It may come out through a drawing, play, behavior, silence, or a change that parents notice.

Therapy can give children and teens a safe space to express what may be difficult to explain and learn new ways to understand and manage their emotions.

For younger children, art and creative activities can help make that process feel more natural.

Sometimes the first step isn’t finding the right words.

It’s giving them a safe place to find them.

Mosaic Wholeness Center offers therapy for children and teens, ages 4–18.

Meet Jessica M. Loya Aquino, MA, LCPC, who joins Mosaic Wholeness Center as Clinical Supervisor and Staff Clinical Counselor.

Jessica was born and raised in Mexico, and she has worked alongside clients in hospitals, schools, community centers, and private practice on both sides of the border. She sees teens, adults, and couples in English and Spanish.

She works especially with people who feel stuck in patterns they cannot quite name. That might look like anxiety or depression that never fully lifts, complex trauma, family-of-origin wounds, a struggle with self-worth and boundaries, questions of identity and belonging, or the same relational dynamic repeating itself in every relationship.

Her approach is psychodynamic, trauma-focused, and collaborative. Her style is warm, supportive, and direct. She believes therapy should be a place where you feel safe enough to be honest and are also challenged to look at the beliefs keeping you stuck. Her goal is not to tell you who to be. It is to help you trust your own judgment long after therapy ends.

Jessica also mentors our developing clinicians as a Clinical Supervisor. She sees clients in person in Rolling Meadows and by telehealth across Illinois.

Watch her introduction below, and visit mosaicwholenesscenter.com to schedule.

Sometimes “Are you okay?” is too easy to answer with:

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

When someone we care about is going through a difficult season, support can look different.

Instead of only asking how they’re doing, tell them what you’ve noticed.

Instead of saying, “Let me know if you need anything,” offer something specific:

“I’m free Thursday. Want to grab coffee?”
“I’m bringing dinner over. What night works?”
“No need to respond. Just wanted you to know I’m thinking about you.”

And perhaps the most important part: check again.

People often receive support when something first happens. A few weeks later, when everyone else has moved on, they may still be carrying it.

Being remembered matters.

You don’t need the perfect words. Sometimes the most meaningful message is simply:

“I’m still here.”

You don’t have to wait until everything falls apart to talk to someone.

Many people continue working, caring for their families, showing up for others, and getting through their responsibilities while quietly realizing that something hasn’t felt right for a while.

Maybe the stress isn’t going away.
Maybe people close to you have noticed a change.
Maybe the ways you’ve been coping aren’t helping as much as they used to.
Or maybe you keep thinking, “It’s not bad enough to talk to someone yet.”

Therapy doesn’t have to begin at rock bottom.

Sometimes it begins with a simple recognition:

“I’ve been carrying this for a while, and I think it’s time to talk about it.”

You don’t need a crisis to begin taking care of your mental health.

Sometimes children and teens are carrying more than they know how to put into words.

Meet Abigail “Abby” HaYoung Jung, MA, LPC, ATR-P, a Licensed Professional Counselor and provisionally Registered Art Therapist at Mosaic Wholeness Center.

Abby specializes in working with children and adolescents experiencing:

• Anxiety and depression
• Trauma and difficult life experiences
• Emotional or behavioral challenges
• School, identity, and family stress
• Transitions from higher levels of mental health care

With training in both counseling and art therapy, Abby helps young people express what they may not yet know how to say. Through conversation, creativity, and evidence-based therapeutic approaches, she creates a space where children and teens can feel safe, understood, and supported.

Abby also believes parents are an important part of the healing process and works collaboratively with families to help progress extend beyond the therapy room.

For families who desire it, Abby can thoughtfully integrate Christian faith into counseling.

Your children won't remember the speech. They'll remember the feeling.

Not the rule you enforced, not the lecture you gave, but whether the air got tight when the front door opened. What your face did when you walked in.

The atmosphere of a home is often set by the adult who carries the most unprocessed weight. That's not blame. It's an invitation. Because weight that gets processed stops filling the room.

You don't have to be a perfect parent. You have to be willing to look at what's heavy.

If home has felt heavier than you want it to, you don't have to sort through it alone,
Details on working together are in the link in bio.

Save this for the day you need to hear it.
