Every year, 12 million people experience a stroke.
That's one every two seconds. 🕦
Stroke can happen suddenly, and without warning.

Stroke cuts off the supply of blood and oxygen to the brain. Every minute it goes untreated, millions of cells die. A stroke is a medical emergency. Immediate treatment may minimize the long-term effects of a stroke and even prevent death.

🧐Knowing how to spot the signs of stroke and raising the alert is an essential first step that can help make sure people get the treatment they need, FAST. This doesn't just save lives, it increases the chance of recovery so that stroke survivors can go on to live their best life.

The FASTer you act the sooner someone gets the treatment they need.

Together, we can help raise awareness about the signs of a stroke.
Together, we can help change lives.

Most of us breathe thousands of times each day without giving it a second thought. But for patients at our inpatient rehabilitation hospitals who are living with chronic lung disease or recovering from a critical illness, breathing may not come so easily.

That’s where our respiratory therapists make a difference. They provide individualized care and support that helps patients breathe easier, participate more fully in rehabilitation, and work toward greater independence and a successful return home.

During 🫁 , October 25–31 🫁, we’re proud to recognize our respiratory therapists for the skill, compassion, and dedication they bring to our patients every day.

Thank you for the difference you make, one breath and one patient at a time. 💙

Every step forward matters. 💙

Sometimes it’s the first step after a serious illness or injury. Sometimes it’s returning to work, getting back to a favorite activity, or simply feeling confident enough to do something independently again.

During National Physical Therapy Month, we celebrate the Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants across our hospitals and outpatient rehabilitation centers who help make these moments possible every day.

Through their expertise, compassion and encouragement, our Physical Therapy teams help patients rebuild strength, restore mobility and work toward greater independence. Just as importantly, they provide encouragement when progress feels difficult, celebrate every milestone achieved and help patients believe in what’s possible.

To our entire Physical Therapy team, thank you for helping our patients keep moving forward and return to the people, activities and moments that matter most.
Happy National Physical Therapy Month! 💙👏

Saturday, October 3 is Ostomy Awareness Day. Did you know that approximately 725,000 to 1 million Americans have had an ostomy, with approximately 100,000 new ostomy procedures performed each year! To raise awareness about this important cause and support the United Ostomy Associations of America, Northeast Rehab's Pouch Posse team will be participating in the Run For Resilience Ostomy 5k on Sunday, October 5 at Wallis Sands State Park in Rye, NH (there's still time to join us). In fact, two members of our Inpatient Wound Care team, Shawnna and Tayler, have been volunteering their time as co-race directors for this event. One Community, Stronger Together.

September is Falls Prevention Month and this year's theme aligns with the World Health Organization’s global falls prevention initiative, "Step Safely".

Research shows that foot problems and inappropriate footwear can significantly increase the risk of falls. Common risk factors include foot pain, reduced strength and flexibility, neuropathy, and foot deformities. Proper footwear can help improve stability and reduce fall risk.

The CDC STEADI program offers these useful "Step Safely" tips to make sure your shoe is helping your balance versus hindering it! Additional details are provided in the images below:

👟 Wear properly fitting shoes both indoors and outdoors.

👟 Choose shoes with good traction, strong heel and arch support, and low heels.

👟 Look for shoes with laces or straps that securely hold the foot in place.

👟 Avoid walking in socks alone.

👟 Avoid high heels, shoes with worn or slippery soles, and backless footwear such as clogs or mules.

Speak to your doctor if you have concerns about your balance.

Meaningful moments that matter show up in our days in ways we least expect, in ways we hope for, and in ways we may never fully know.

“Moments that Matter” was the theme of our National Rehab Week celebration and Employee Service & Excellence Awards Banquet last week. We had a wonderful time recognizing employee service milestones ranging from 5 to 40 years and celebrating our Circle of Excellence recipients, who were honored for their exceptional commitment to going above and beyond in their roles.

Most importantly, thank you to our incredible staff for the compassion, dedication, and expertise you bring to our patients, their loved ones and our community every day. The meaningful moments we share and celebrate are all possible because of you.

Here are a few photos from the event! 📸
