It’s heartbreaking how many women have spent years believing that pain, discomfort, and changes in their bodies are simply things they’re expected to tolerate. We’ve heard from women who thought leaking after childbirth was inevitable, who were told their debilitating periods were normal, or who assumed painful in*******se was just something they had to learn to live with. And when you’ve heard those things enough times, it’s understandable that you eventually stop questioning them.
As pelvic floor therapists, we want women to understand that common doesn’t always mean normal, and symptoms are rarely as simple as having a weak pelvic floor. Your muscles, hormones, nervous system, and medical history all play a role in how your body functions. Sometimes treatment involves strengthening, sometimes it involves learning to release tension, and sometimes it means looking deeper for an underlying condition.
You deserve to feel comfortable asking questions about your body, even the ones you’ve been embarrassed to ask before. And more than anything, you deserve to be taken seriously when something doesn’t feel right. 🤍
