Children's health is about more than the absence of illness.

Have you ever noticed that when your child isn't sleeping well, everything else seems harder? Their mood changes, their patience disappears, and even mealtimes become a challenge?

Or maybe you've noticed ongoing tummy troubles alongside changes in appetite, energy, or behavior.

These things don't always share the same cause, but they can be connected.

Children's bodies and brains are developing rapidly, and their health is influenced by many interacting factors, including:

💤 Sleep and recovery
🥑 Nutrition and hydration
🦠 Digestive health
❤️ Emotional well-being and stress
🌱 Daily routines and environment

As parents, we don't need to find a hidden problem behind every difficult day. But when symptoms persist, looking at patterns and considering the bigger picture can help us understand what support a child may need.

Sometimes, the most helpful question isn't just "How do we manage this symptom?" but also "What else should we consider?"

And when something doesn't feel right, you're always allowed to ask questions and seek further evaluation.

Save this post as a reminder to look at the whole child, not just the symptom. 💛

Something I want every patient to know before they walk into my office…

You don't have to have all the answers before you come see me.

You don't need to know exactly what's wrong.
You don't need to have your symptoms perfectly organized.
You don't need to arrive with a diagnosis or know which questions to ask.

You just need to know that something doesn't feel right.

Maybe you've been struggling with fatigue, digestive issues, hormonal changes, brain fog, or symptoms that no one has been able to explain.

Maybe you've been told everything looks normal, but you still don't feel like yourself.

Maybe you're simply tired of trying to figure it all out on your own.

I want you to know that your concerns deserve to be heard.

My approach to care is about slowing down, listening to your story, understanding your history, and looking at the bigger picture.

Because no two people are exactly alike, and your care shouldn't be one-size-fits-all.

Together, we can explore what may be contributing to your symptoms and create an individualized plan that makes sense for you.

You deserve to feel heard, supported, and involved in your own healing journey. 🌿

If you've been looking for a more thoughtful, whole-person approach to your health, I'm here to help. 🤍

Your gut health is about so much more than taking a probiotic.

If you're dealing with bloating, constipation, irregular bowel movements, or digestive discomfort, the answer isn't always another supplement.

Your gut is influenced by so many things and sometimes, it's the everyday habits that make a meaningful difference.

Here are 5 places to start:

🥦 1. Eat a variety of plant foods.
Vegetables, fruits, beans, lentils, nuts, and seeds provide fiber and nutrients that help support a diverse gut microbiome.

💧 2. Support regular bowel movements.
Hydration, movement, adequate food intake, and fiber (in amounts you tolerate) can all play a role in keeping things moving.

🥣 3. Consider fermented foods.
Yogurt with live cultures, kefir, and fermented vegetables may be helpful additions if you tolerate them well. More isn't always better, but naturally occurring probiotics can be really valuable.

🍽️ 4. Slow down when you eat.
Eating in a calmer environment, chewing thoroughly, and allowing yourself time to enjoy meals can support the digestive process.

😴 5. Don't overlook sleep and stress.
Your gut and brain are constantly communicating. Stress and poor sleep can influence digestion, bowel habits, and how you experience digestive symptoms.

And remember: what works for one person's gut may not work for another's.

If you've tried changing your diet, taking probiotics, and adding supplements but still aren't feeling better, it may be time to look more comprehensively at your microbiome and gut diversity.

The goal isn't to keep restricting more and more foods or adding more and more supplements. It's to understand what your body needs and use a targeted treatment approach to rebalance your digestive system.

🌿 Save this as a reminder that small, consistent habits count.

If you’re constantly tired, your first question shouldn’t always be “What supplement should I take?”

Sometimes it starts with something much more basic:

Are you giving your body enough of the nutrients it needs to make energy?

Here are 10 foods I love for supporting energy and overall nourishment:

🥚 Eggs — protein, choline, B vitamins
🐟 Salmon — protein, omega-3s, B vitamins
🥩 Lean red meat — iron, B12, protein
🥬 Leafy greens — magnesium, folate, iron
🫐 Berries — antioxidants + fiber
🥑 Avocado — healthy fats, fiber, magnesium
🌰 Pumpkin seeds — magnesium, iron, protein
🫘 Beans + lentils — iron, fiber, complex carbohydrates
🥔 Potatoes + sweet potatoes — carbohydrates, potassium, nutrients
🥣 Oats — complex carbohydrates, fiber, B vitamins

A few nutrients are especially important for energy metabolism. For example, magnesium is involved in energy production, while iron and vitamin B12 are important for oxygen transport and healthy blood cells.

This is why I don't love the idea of only throwing supplements at fatigue.

If you're exhausted all the time, there can be many reasons...inadequate food intake, nutrient deficiencies, poor sleep, chronic stress, blood sugar issues, thyroid dysfunction, hormonal changes, anemia, and more.

Food is one piece of the puzzle.

So before reaching for your third coffee of the day, ask yourself:

Am I eating enough?
Am I getting enough protein?
Am I eating carbohydrates?
Am I getting a variety of whole foods?

And if you're doing all of that and still feel exhausted, then it may be time to ask a bigger question:

Why? 🌿

Sometimes the hardest part of not feeling well is not knowing why.

You know something has changed.

Your energy isn't what it used to be
Your sleep is different
Your digestion isn't cooperating
Your mood feels unfamiliar
Your hormones seem out of balance
You don't feel like yourself anymore

But maybe your labs are “normal.”
Maybe you've been told it's stress.
Maybe you've been told it's just aging.
Maybe you've been given something to manage the symptom without ever really understanding what might be contributing to it.

And eventually, you start wondering if you're just supposed to live with it.

You aren't.

You don't need to walk into a doctor's office knowing what's wrong. That's part of what healthcare is for.

Your job is to notice that something doesn't feel right and advocate for yourself.

My job is to listen, ask questions, look at the bigger picture, and help you investigate what may be contributing to how you're feeling.

Your symptoms aren't something to be dismissed simply because they don't fit neatly into a diagnosis.

Your experience matters.
Your symptoms are information.
And you deserve to feel well. 🌿🤍

“The power that made the body heals the body.”

This is one of the principles at the heart of naturopathic medicine.

Your body is constantly working to create balance.

A cut begins to heal
A bone begins to repair
Your immune system responds
Your nervous system adapts
Your cells are constantly renewing and communicating

The body has an incredible capacity for healing, but sometimes it needs the right conditions to do its work.

That’s where I believe medicine can play such an important role.

Not simply in chasing symptoms or overriding what the body is doing, but in asking:

What is getting in the way of healing?

Is it chronic stress?
Nutrient deficiencies?
Poor sleep?
Inflammation?
Hormonal imbalance?
Digestive dysfunction?
Environmental exposures?
A nervous system that has been stuck in survival mode?

My role is not to “heal” you.
It’s to listen, investigate, identify what may be disrupting your body’s ability to function well, and help create the conditions where healing can happen.

Your body is not your enemy.

It is constantly working for you.

Sometimes it just needs a little more support.

🌿 Create the conditions. Support the body. Trust the process.

If you’re trying to support a healthier inflammatory response, start by looking at what you can ADD to your diet, not just what you could eliminate. 🌿

Here are some of my favorite foods to incorporate regularly:

🐟 Fatty fish — salmon, sardines, mackerel
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids.

🫐 Berries
Packed with fiber and antioxidant-rich plant compounds.

🥬 Leafy greens
Great sources of folate, magnesium, vitamin K, and other nutrients.

🥦 Cruciferous vegetables
Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage provide fiber and beneficial plant compounds.

🥑 Avocado
Provides fiber and monounsaturated fats.

🫒 Extra virgin olive oil
A staple of Mediterranean-style eating and a source of monounsaturated fats and polyphenols.

🌰 Walnuts + nuts
Provide healthy fats, fiber, and a variety of micronutrients.

🫘 Beans + lentils
Great sources of fiber and plant-based protein.

🍅 Tomatoes
Provide lycopene and other beneficial plant compounds, (if you're not sensitive to nightshades).

🌿 Herbs + spices
Turmeric, ginger, garlic, cinnamon, and other spices can add flavor along with a variety of plant compounds.

And one important reminder:

There is no single food that will “fix” inflammation.

Your overall dietary pattern matters much more than any individual food.

Think:
✨ more colorful plants
✨ more fiber
✨ adequate protein
✨ healthy fats
✨ omega-3-rich foods
✨ plenty of variety
✨ fewer highly processed foods

And you don't have to overhaul your diet overnight. Start by adding one more colorful plant to your plate today. 🤍

Electrolytes are essential... but that doesn't mean everyone needs an electrolyte packet every day. 💧

Lately, it seems like everyone is adding electrolytes to their water. And while they can be incredibly helpful in the right situations, they're not a magic health supplement and may not be necessary for everyone.

So what are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are minerals that carry an electrical charge and help your body function properly. The main ones include:

⚡ Sodium
⚡ Potassium
⚡ Magnesium
⚡ Calcium

These minerals are essential for:

💧 Hydration
❤️ Heart function
💪 Muscle contractions
🧠 Nerve signaling
⚖️ Blood pressure regulation
🏃 Exercise performance and recovery

The good news?

Most people can get plenty of electrolytes through a balanced diet.

Some of my favorite food sources include:

🥑 Avocados
🍌 Bananas
🥬 Leafy greens
🥔 Potatoes
🥥 Coconut water
🧂 Mineral-rich foods and appropriate amounts of salt
🐟 Fish
🥛 Dairy products
🥜 Nuts and seeds

There are times when electrolyte supplementation can be beneficial such as prolonged exercise, excessive sweating, certain illnesses with vomiting or diarrhea, working in extreme heat, or for some medical conditions. In those situations, replacing lost fluids and electrolytes is important.

But for many healthy people eating a nutrient-dense diet and drinking enough fluids, expensive daily electrolyte products may not provide additional benefit.

As with so many things in health, more isn't always better.

The goal is to understand what your body needs.

🌿 If you're wondering whether electrolyte supplementation (or any supplement) is right for you, I'd love to help. Together, we'll create a personalized plan based on your health, lifestyle, and goals instead of the latest social media trend.
