FLU SEASON IS RAMPING UP — ARE YOU PROTECTED?

Flu activity is being reported earlier than usual in parts of the Northeast, making now a great time to think about protecting yourself and your family this season.

The flu can be more than just a few miserable days. It can lead to serious complications, especially for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with certain underlying health conditions.

The good news? The flu vaccine is available at Sea Cliff Chemists!

Getting vaccinated can help reduce your risk of getting the flu and may help protect against severe illness if you do become infected.

A few reminders:
• Flu vaccination is recommended each season for most people ages 6 months and older.
• It takes about two weeks after vaccination for your body to develop its full immune response.
• Along with vaccination, wash your hands regularly, cover coughs and sneezes, and stay home when you're sick.

Don't wait until flu is making the rounds in your household. Stop by or contact Sea Cliff Chemists to ask about flu vaccine availability!

We're here to make protecting your health convenient, personal, and close to home.

☀️ SUNSCREEN SEASON IS ALL YEAR LONG!

Think sunscreen is just for summer? Think again! As the temperatures cool and beach days become a distant memory, protecting your skin from the sun’s UV rays is still important.

Here are a few facts worth knowing:

• UV rays don't take the fall off! The CDC confirms that UV rays can reach your skin on cool and cloudy days, and UVA rays remain relatively consistent throughout the year.

• Sun damage adds up. Overexposure to UV radiation can contribute to premature skin aging, wrinkles and skin cancer.
• Make SPF part of your daily routine. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends SPF 30 or higher for everyday sun protection.

• Don't forget to reapply! Reapply sunscreen at least every two hours when outdoors, and after swimming, sweating or toweling off.

Whether you're walking the dog, enjoying an outdoor workout, running errands or spending time outside with family, your skin deserves year-round protection.

Need to restock your sunscreen? We've got you covered!

Sea Cliff Chemists carries a variety of sun-care favorites, including:

☀️ Sonrei
☀️ Babo Botanicals
☀️ Coppertone
☀️ Neutrogena
☀️ CeraVe

Stop in and explore our selection to find a sunscreen that fits your skin and routine.

🍂 PHARMACY Q&A: Can I Take Two Different Cold Medicines at the Same Time?

Two cold medicines don't always mean double the relief! 🤧

When cold and flu symptoms hit, it can be tempting to reach for multiple products to tackle everything at once. But before combining medications, take a moment to check the labels!

Here's why it matters:

• Watch for duplicate ingredients. Different brands may contain the same active ingredient. For example, acetaminophen is found in many pain relievers and multi-symptom cold and flu products. Taking both could accidentally lead to too much.

• More isn't always better. Taking overlapping medications can increase the risk of side effects and potentially serious complications.

• Read the Drug Facts label. Check the active ingredients, directions, warnings and whether the product is intended to be used with other medications.

• Ask before you combine. Some cold medicines may not be appropriate for people with certain health conditions or those taking prescription medications.

Our best advice? Before taking more than one cold or flu product, check with your pharmacist to make sure the combination is safe for you.

At Sea Cliff Chemists, we're here to help you navigate cold and flu season with confidence. Not sure which product is right for your symptoms? Stop in and ask us!

ARE YOU 50 OR OLDER? IT MAY BE TIME TO THINK ABOUT SHINGLES PREVENTION.

Did you know that about 1 in 3 people in the United States will develop shingles during their lifetime? And the risk increases as you get older. (Source: CDC)

Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you recover from chickenpox, the virus stays in your body and can reactivate years later, causing a painful rash. For some people, the pain can linger for months or even years.

The good news? Vaccination can help protect you.

The CDC recommends the Shingrix shingles vaccine for adults age 50 and older, even if you’ve already had shingles.

Here are a few important facts:

• Two doses are recommended, typically 2–6 months apart.

• Shingrix is over 90% effective at preventing shingles in adults 50 and older with healthy immune systems.

• You can still benefit if you've had shingles before. A previous episode doesn't mean you can't get it again.

• The risk of complications increases with age. One potential complication is postherpetic neuralgia, which causes persistent nerve pain after the rash clears.

Have you received both doses? If you’ve had your first shot but haven't completed the series, check whether you're due for your second.

At Sea Cliff Chemists, we offer vaccinations to help make protecting your health more convenient. Stop in or contact us to ask about Shingrix availability and whether you're due for your vaccine.

PHARMACY Q&A: Can I Take Multiple Vitamins Together?

The answer is: sometimes — but more isn’t necessarily better.

If you take several vitamins or supplements, it’s important to know exactly what’s in each one. Some products contain overlapping ingredients, which could mean you’re getting more of a particular vitamin or mineral than you realize.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Check the labels. A multivitamin, individual vitamin and specialty supplement may contain some of the same nutrients.

• More isn’t always better. Certain vitamins and minerals can cause problems when taken in excessive amounts.

• Timing can matter. Some vitamins and minerals are absorbed differently depending on whether you take them with food, and some can interfere with certain medications.

• Tell your pharmacist what you take. Be sure to mention all prescription medications, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins and supplements. This helps your pharmacist identify potential interactions or duplicate ingredients.

• Ask before adding something new. If you’re considering adding another vitamin or supplement to your routine, your pharmacist can help you determine whether it makes sense for you.

And remember, “natural” doesn’t automatically mean risk-free. Supplements can have real effects on your body and can interact with medications.

Have questions about your vitamins or supplements? Ask us — we’re happy to help!

Your neighborhood pharmacy is here to help you make informed choices about your health and wellness.

COLD & FLU SEASON IS COMING. 🍂🤧

Nobody wants to be caught without the basics when a cough, fever or stuffy nose strikes. Before the season gets into full swing, take a few minutes to check your medicine cabinet and make sure you have the essentials on hand.

Consider having:

✓ A reliable thermometer — Helpful for keeping track of a fever.

✓ Pain & fever relief — Keep an appropriate option on hand for those days when you’re feeling under the weather.

✓ Cough & cold essentials — Depending on your symptoms, you may want products for cough, congestion or sore throat.

✓ Saline nasal spray — A simple option that can help with nasal dryness and congestion.

✓ Tissues & hand sanitizer — The everyday essentials you’ll be glad you have nearby.

✓ Hydration — Water, electrolyte drinks and other hydrating beverages can be especially helpful when you're not feeling your best.

✓ First-aid basics — Bandages, antiseptic and other supplies are always good to have stocked.

A few tips before you reach for an over-the-counter cold or flu product: Check the active ingredients, follow the label directions and ask your pharmacist if you take prescription medications or have questions about which product is right for you. Some combination products contain the same ingredients, so taking more than one can accidentally lead to too much of a medication.

And remember — antibiotics don't treat viral illnesses like most colds and the flu.

Not sure what you need? Ask us! We're happy to help you prepare your medicine cabinet before you need it.

DON’T WAIT UNTIL YOU’RE SICK. 🍂

Fall and cold & flu season have a way of sneaking up on us. A little preparation now can make those unexpected sick days a whole lot easier.

Take a few minutes to check your home health essentials:

✓ Prescriptions — Make sure you have enough medication and request refills before you run low.

✓ Vaccines — Talk with your pharmacist or healthcare provider about recommended vaccines for the season ahead.

✓ First-Aid Supplies — Check your bandages, antiseptic, burn care and other basics. Replace anything that’s expired or running low.

✓ Cold & Flu Essentials — Be prepared with the items you may need when a cough, congestion, sore throat or fever strikes.

✓ Vitamins & Supplements — Review what you’re taking and ask your pharmacist if you have questions about your supplements or how they fit with your medications.

✓ Thermometer — A simple essential that’s easy to overlook until you need one.

✓ Hand Sanitizer — Keep some handy at home, in the car or in your bag.

A few minutes of preparation now can save you a last-minute trip when you're not feeling your best.

And if you’re not sure what you should have on hand or have questions about your medications, ask us! We’re always happy to help.
