We had a great vaccine clinic last week at Where the Heart is in Burlington! These clinics are one of my favorite things to do as a pharmacist!

Today we welcomed Chris Schaffner, owner and pharmacist of Schaffner Pharmacies & Compounding / Apothecary Coffee for our flu vaccine clinic! His charm and friendly personality made getting poked a little easier. Our residents were smiling so much, they hardly minded the needle!

Yesterday, I recertified my Basic Life Support (CPR) credentials. As a healthcare provider, this is something I do every two years, but I recommend everyone get trained in basic first aid and CPR.

Thankfully, I haven’t had to use these skills too often, but in the two years since my last recertification, I’ve had to perform CPR twice. Both instances happened outside the pharmacy, while I was just living my normal, ordinary life.

When those emergencies arose, I fell immediately back into the training I had received. I didn’t have to think about my actions—I just acted. I wasn’t perfect, but I didn’t have to be to help. Those experiences are why I believe it’s so important for everyone to get this type of training.

So register yourself for a class, learn some new skills, or refresh some old ones. You might not ever need to use it, but who knows…you might just save someone’s life.
