F*** those scary thoughts. 👻

Seriously. The only thing that should be terrifying us this Halloween is the amount of candy we're about to consume. 🍬

Our PLC Vision Wall got a spooky little makeover, courtesy of the creativity, humor, and personalities of our clients.

And while we're all for a good Halloween scare, here's your reminder that not every scary thought deserves your attention, and not every thought your brain creates is a fact.

Sometimes our minds are really good at coming up with worst-case scenarios. But just because your brain tells you something scary doesn't mean it's true.

So this Halloween, let's save the fear for haunted houses, horror movies, and checking how much candy we've eaten in one sitting.

Happy Halloween from the PLC crew! 💚

Dog-assisted therapy is more than having a sweet dog in the room.

At Paula Lain Counseling & Co., a licensed clinician intentionally includes a specially trained dog in your treatment plan. Every interaction has a purpose, whether that's helping regulate anxiety, build trust, practice social skills, process trauma, or simply make therapy feel a little more approachable.

The human-animal connection can create a sense of safety that helps meaningful therapeutic work begin.

And yes... the tail wags are a pretty great bonus.
Sometimes healing begins with a wagging tail.

It's our Vision Wall.

Every week, it changes.

Created by our clients, it reflects the thoughts, emotions, goals, creativity, and moments happening inside these walls. Some weeks it's colorful. Some weeks it's messy. Some weeks it's hopeful. Every week, it's real.

Because healing isn't one-size-fits-all... and neither is the space where it happens.

It sets the tone for our clients, our therapists, and every conversation that follows. 💚

Healing has a funny way of making us think we need to become someone completely different.

Less anxious.
More confident.
More productive.
More put together.

But healing isn't about becoming someone new.
It's about coming home to yourself.

To the version of you that existed before the self-doubt.
Before the people-pleasing.
Before the survival mode.

You don't have to earn your way back.
You just have to keep showing up.

💚 What's one part of yourself you're trying to reconnect with?

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to talk not only about abuse, but also about what healthy love should look like.

One of the biggest misconceptions about relationships is that love means constantly fighting to keep someone.

Healthy love shouldn't require you to sacrifice your peace, your voice, your safety, or your sense of self.

Unhealthy relationships don't always begin with physical violence. They often start with patterns of control, manipulation, isolation, intimidation, or emotional abuse that slowly make you question yourself.

Healthy love makes room for:
💜 Respect.
💜 Trust.
💜 Safety.
💜 Boundaries.
💜 Freedom to be yourself.

If you're constantly walking on eggshells, afraid of someone's reaction, or wondering if what you're experiencing is "normal," those feelings deserve attention.

You deserve a relationship where you don't have to fight to keep the peace... you get to keep your peace.

If this resonates with you, know that support is available. You don't have to navigate it alone.

October reminds us that change is part of being alive.

The leaves let go.
The days grow shorter.
The seasons shift.

And just like nature, we're allowed to change too.

This month, we're talking about the emotions that come with transition, not because something is wrong with you, but because being human means feeling it all.

As you move through October, remember:
You don't have to rush your healing.
You don't have to have all the answers.
You don't have to pick just one emotion.

You can feel anxious and hopeful.
Overwhelmed and excited.
Tired and still growing.

Every season has a purpose.

We're glad you're here. 💚

Before we turn the page to October, we want to ask you something.

Not, "How are you?" because most of us answer that on autopilot.

We mean...
What do you actually need right now?

Maybe it's:
🤍 Rest.
🤍 A hug.
🤍 Community.
🤍 Better boundaries.
🤍 Hope.
🤍 Confidence.
🤍 Sleep.
🤍 A therapist.
🤍 Someone to listen.
🤍 A little more grace for yourself.

Whatever it is, you're probably not the only one who needs it.
Drop one word in the comments.

No explanation.
No pressure.
Just one word.

Someone else might read your answer and realize they aren't alone.

💚 We'll be reading every comment.

National Coffee Day calls for an important question...

☕ What does your coffee order say about your current season of life?

Some days you're savoring a fancy latte because you're choosing yourself.

Some days it's herbal tea because your nervous system deserves a break.

And some days... it's a gas station espresso because your calendar has personally declared war on you.

Wherever you're at, remember this:
You don't have to earn rest.
You don't have to be productive to deserve care.

And taking care of yourself isn't a reward; it helps you keep going.

Now tell us...
👇 What's your current coffee order, and how are you really doing?

September has a funny way of making us think everyone else has suddenly figured life out.

The routines are back.
The calendars are full.
Summer is over.

And somehow we're supposed to have our lives completely together overnight.

Here's a reminder:
You don't have to earn your worth by being organized.
You don't have to prove you're capable by never struggling.
You don't have to be perfect to be doing okay.

When your inner critic gets loud, try answering it with something kinder.

💚 Hi me. I love you, even when this is hard.
💚 I believe in myself.
💚 I am a gift to the people in my life.
💚 I'm allowed to feel overwhelmed without making it my identity.
💚 I choose myself today.
💚 I will not harm myself with mean, critical thoughts.
💚 I get to make mistakes and still be amazing.
💚 I don't need to be perfect. I just need to be real.

If September has you feeling like everyone else has it figured out...

They probably don't.

We're all just learning how to be human.

And that's enough.

Spoiler alert: Therapists don't have their sh*t together all the time either.

We buy ourselves flowers. We take our medication. We drink water. We rest. We ask for help. We let people love us. We go to therapy.

Because self-care isn't about being perfect.
It's about doing the next kind thing for yourself.
This month, we're choosing care over performance.

What's one way you're taking care of yourself today? 💚
