Help us celebrate the people making an impact in the world of Assistive Technology!
Nominations Are Open for the Michael Phillips Assistive Technology Award of Excellence!

Do you know someone who uses assistive technology in impactful ways to overcome barriers, achieve goals, or help others see what’s possible? We want to recognize them!

You don’t have to be an assistive technology professional to be nominated!

We encourage nominations for individuals with disabilities, and individuals without disabilities, who use assistive technology in impactful ways, as well as assistive technology advocates and professionals who work to expand access to AT and improve the lives of people with disabilities.

Who can be nominated?

Individuals with disabilities who use assistive technology in impactful ways
Assistive technology advocates
Assistive technology professionals and specialists
Educators or therapists who use AT to support people with disabilities
Caregivers or family members who champion assistive technology
Community leaders who help increase access to assistive technology
Individuals who develop creative solutions or innovative uses for AT

Know someone that deserves recognition? Friends, family members, caregivers, colleagues, and professionals are all encouraged to submit a nomination!

Thank you Florida (Agency for Persons with Disabilities) for helping spread the word!

FAAST, Florida’s Statewide Assistive Technology Act Program, wants to hear from adults with I/DD and their families! They are forming a Workgroup to help guide what technology can best support independent living as individuals and their families age.

Together, we’ll look at tools that make daily life at home easier, like smart devices, phone apps, communication supports, and home sensors that can alert someone when help may be needed. You don’t need to be a technology expert; your lived experience is what matters.

You may be a great fit if you are:
• An adult with I/DD
• A parent, sibling, or guardian of an adult with I/DD

The Workgroup will meet virtually 4–6 times over the next 12 months. Interested in joining? Email Stacy Driscoll at [email protected] by November 6, 2026, to learn more.

💚 October is Dwarfism Awareness Month!

Dwarfism is a medical or genetic condition characterized by short stature, typically resulting in an adult height of 4 feet 10 inches or less. There are more than 200 types of dwarfism, and every person's experience is unique.

Awareness means celebrating people’s abilities, challenging stereotypes, and recognizing the importance of accessibility in everyday life. Assistive technology and adaptive tools can help people with dwarfism navigate their environments, reach everyday items, and participate more independently at home, school, and work.

At FAAST, we believe technology should help remove barriers and support people in living life on their own terms. 💙
