Any guesses to what is being depicted or expressed here?

Mountain I and II are ceramic sculptures made by Myungsook Ryu Kim. Inspired by murals from Korea's Goguryeo period (37 BC - 668 AD), these works express symbolic and complex ancient history.

These, and several other sculptures are currently on view in Encounter, AA&CC's fall 2026 exhibition. After you check out our main gallery, be sure to walk down the corridor right beside the Asian Arts Gallery to see vitrines filled with even more of Kim's work. It's where you'll find this piece!

Our gallery is open from 11am-4pm Monday through Saturday through December 12 (closed Nov. 25 – 29).

AA&CC is a proud partner of Goucher Art Galleries' Right and Wrong Undone, a solo exhibition by artist Xin Ni at the Bond Gallery, Goucher College.

Through a dynamic installation of brightly colored, translucent forms inspired by Chinese funerary traditions, Ni explores how what may carry recognizable cultural associations in one setting becomes strange, decorative, playful, or illegible in another. Suspended from the ceiling, they transform the gallery into a shifting environment of color, transparency, and light.

The exhibition opens with a live, improvised performance by Xin Ni, in collaboration with Japanese Shakuhachi player Hideo Rakudou. Through movement, sound, and the architecture of the gallery, the performance explores the tensions between visibility and exposure, familiarity and strangeness, and translation and misinterpretation.

📅 Exhibition Dates: November 5, 2026 – January 22, 2027
📍 Location: Bond Gallery, Goucher College
1021 Dulaney Valley Road, Baltimore, MD 21204

🎭 Opening Reception & Performance
Thursday, November 5 | 4–8 PM
Live performance featuring Xin Ni and Hideo Rakudou at 7 PM

Do these round white vessels remind you of anything? Do you think they resemble the moon?

These pots, created by Myungsook Ryu Kim, are inspired by a beloved Korean ceramic tradition: In the late 17th century, anonymous potters at the Bunwon kilns near Seoul crafted nearly spherical jars with a milky color glaze. They acquired the nickname, “moon jars,” in the 1950s.

Visit the Asian Arts Gallery to see Kim's contemporary twist on Korean moon jars and many other works that combine Korean culture with contemporary art techniques.

Our gallery is open from 11am-4pm Monday through Saturday through December 12 (closed Oct. 23 and Nov. 25 – 29).

This photograph shows Master Chum Ngek teaching a TU student how to play the kong thom, a semi-circle of sixteen low-pitched gongs. Kong thom is an important instrument in the Cambodian classical music ensemble known as pin peat. It works in tandem with the roneat aik, a high-pitched, wooden xylophone with twenty-one bars, as an ensemble leader.

Come listen to Master Chum’s Fall 2026 TU ensemble on November 23, and discover how all the pin peat instruments blend together to create an enchanting and meditative percussive soundscape.
