POTS, or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, can affect people of any s*x or age, but it is seen most often in adolescent and young adult women.
Certain factors have also been associated with POTS, including a family history of the condition, some autoimmune diseases and hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. In some people, symptoms begin after an infection, surgery, physical trauma or pregnancy.
Common symptoms can include lightheadedness, rapid heartbeat, fatigue, palpitations, exercise intolerance and symptoms that worsen when standing.
If you regularly experience symptoms like these, talk with a qualified healthcare professional rather than trying to self-diagnose.
