This simple act of looking is at the heart of much of my work: exploring how light, colour, pattern and movement influence attention, perception and the way we experience what we see.

These images are created through the kaleidoscopic instruments I have worked with and developed over many years as part of my exploration of Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy™ and Light Literacy™.

Looking is something we do. Looking again is something we choose to do.

On 30 October I’ll be facilitating Guided Light: An Immersive Journey into Perception at Prana in Mossel Bay.

Over three hours we’ll explore the relationship between colour, geometry, attention, movement and perception through guided exercises, Light in Motion and an extended kaleidoscopic light experience.

The intention is not to tell you what you should see or feel, but to create the conditions for you to notice your own response to light, movement and changing visual environments.

Sometimes the simplest way to understand this work is not to explain it.

It is to experience it.

This is a one-hour open-eye meditation using kaleidoscopic light, created as a space for sustained visual attention rather than interpretation.

You do not need to analyse what you see.

Just notice what happens when you stay with colour, pattern, movement and light for a little longer than usual.

What draws your attention?
What changes?
What becomes quieter?
What becomes more vivid?

This kind of sustained visual engagement sits close to the heart of my work with perception.

That last phrase matters to me.

What does it actually mean to see ourselves clearly?

Much of the work behind *Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy* began with a deceptively simple observation:

We do not merely receive the world as it is.

We organise what we perceive.

Light, colour, pattern, attention, memory, expectation and bodily state all contribute to the experience that eventually becomes meaning.

Over years of working with kaleidoscopic light, I became increasingly interested not simply in what people saw, but in what happened as perception shifted.

Over time, those observations contributed to the broader framework I now call Light Literacy™, within which Rainbow Body Mapping™ became one way of exploring the relationship between colour, embodied experience and perception.

The book explores this territory through research, practitioner observation and the frameworks that have emerged from my own work.

I am careful not to confuse those things.

Established evidence is evidence.
A practitioner observation is an observation.
A framework is a way of organising and investigating what we notice.

But they can meet in a very interesting place.

The place before certainty.

The place where we begin asking:

What am I actually seeing?

And what have I already added to what I see?

A question I ask myself often: who holds the person who spends so much of their life holding others?

Healers and practitioners get good at paying attention to other people. We listen. We watch for the small shifts. We make room for someone else to slow down, feel what's there, and find their own way through.

But we're people too, standing inside that same field.

We take things in. We respond. We carry what we carry.

And every now and then, we need a place where we're not the one holding the room.

That's what my individual practice offers.

The work is experiential and built around perception — light, colour, embodied awareness, and the approaches I've built up over many years of doing this.

It's not about becoming a better practitioner.

It's a place where you can show up as yourself, not as the person everyone else leans on.

I've set aside two days a week for this kind of one-on-one work.

What is Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy?

It began with a deceptively simple observation.

When we look through a kaleidoscope, we don't simply see colour.

We encounter light, symmetry, movement, contrast and constantly changing patterns. The image reorganises with the smallest movement, and our attention reorganises with it.

For many years, I worked practically with colour and kaleidoscopic light and watched how differently people responded to what they saw. Some colours attracted them. Others created resistance. Some patterns seemed to settle attention, while others brought something unexpected into awareness.

Over time, my question changed.

I became less interested in asking “What does this colour mean?”

and increasingly interested in asking:

“What is happening in the person who is perceiving it?”

That shift became important.

Because Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy isn't really about interpreting pretty patterns. It is an exploration of the relationship between light, colour, attention, perception and the body.

And it eventually led to the development of Rainbow Body Mapping™, the framework at the centre of my forthcoming book.

Over the coming weeks, I’m going to share some of the ideas behind this work here — including perception, colour, the nervous system, Rainbow Body Mapping and why the kaleidoscope became such an unusual instrument for exploring them.

After more than two decades of working with light and perception, this book is finally becoming real✨

After many years of working with light, colour, perception and the body, this book is finally beginning its journey into the world.

Kaleidoscopic Light Therapy: Restoring the Nervous System Through Rainbow Body Mapping will be published on 7 March 2027.
