Today is World Osteoporosis Day. 🦴

Our bones quietly hold us up every day. From midlife, they can start to lose strength more quickly, especially around menopause when oestrogen levels fall.

The good news is there's plenty you can do:
• Keep moving. Walking, dancing and strength work all support bone health
• Eat enough calcium and protein, and get some safe sun for vitamin D
• Ask your GP whether a bone health check is right for you, especially if you're past menopause, have a family history, or have had a fracture

Danielle runs a bone health class at the Women's Health Centre, and weekly groups are a friendly place to start moving. Call 02 6699 3353 to join the waitlist.

World Osteoporosis Day – 20 October
💗 Bone health is an important part of women’s health, especially as hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can contribute to bone loss.

đź’Ş Building strength, staying active and doing weight-bearing exercise can help support bone health and reduce fracture risk.

🌸 Early awareness and prevention can make a real difference to your long-term health and wellbeing.

Today is World Menopause Day, and October is World Menopause Month. đź’ś

Menopause is one part of midlife, and midlife is a lot: work, caring for kids or parents, relationships, and a body that's changing. No two women go through it the same way.

So here's what we'd love every woman on the Coffs Coast to know:
âś” Your symptoms are real, and there's help
âś” Changes can start years before your periods stop (that's perimenopause)
âś” You don't have to wait until it's "bad enough" to ask for support
âś” Be careful with quick fixes. Trusted, evidence-based information matters

Not sure where to start? Jean Hailes has a free symptom checklist you can take to your GP, plus plain-language information on managing symptoms, hormone therapy, early menopause and more: https://www.jeanhailes.org.au/health-topics/menopause/

This week, one of our clinicians swaps the clinic for a bike seat. 🚴‍♀️

Kay Fairweather, Osteopath and Pelvic Health Educator in our Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic, is on her way from Tweed Heads with 24 other riders on the Pain Revolution Rural Outreach Tour, heading for Port Macquarie.

In every town the peloton stops, there's a free community event explaining modern pain science in plain language. Ours is right here in Coffs Harbour:

đź“… Wednesday 21 October
🕔 5:00–6:30pm

Everyone's welcome: people living with pain, the people who support them, and health professionals. Register free: https://events.humanitix.com/rural-outreach-tour-coffs-harbour-event

Six months ago, Kay wasn't a cyclist. She borrowed a road bike from a patient just to learn the basics.

This week, she rode 123km, her longest ride yet, as training for the Pain Revolution Rural Outreach Tour this October.

Follow along as she counts down to the ride.

Forty years ago, a group of courageous women in Coffs Harbour decided our community deserved better healthcare, stronger advocacy, and a place where women's voices would be heard. Last week, we celebrated the incredible legacy that vision created.

Thank you to our key stakeholders and funders that joined us in the River Oak Room to mark 40 years of the Coffs Harbour Women's Health Centre. It was a truly special morning reflecting on how far we've come and the impact the Centre continues to have on generations of women and families across our region.

A heartfelt thank you to Dr Celia Nolan and the remarkable pioneers who helped establish the Centre.

Thank you also to Karly Morris () for her beautiful live art piece, which captured the spirit, stories, and strength of the day so perfectly.

Here's to 40 years improving health outcomes, and creating positive change and to the next 40 years ahead. đź’ś

This October we will be following and sharing a lot of information about chronic pain as we support one of our very own clinicians, Kay Fairweather, as she rides 780km to raise awareness, and to deliver free community pain-science events along the way.

Kay works locally as an osteopath in Bellingen and as Pelvic Health and Pain Educator at the Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic.

The Coffs Harbour community event is Wednesday 21 October, 5:00pm-6:30pm, D Theatre, Southern Cross University.

Every rider funds their own tour - so if you would like to support Kay, you can donate any amount here: https://2026-pain-revolution-rural-outreach-tour.raiselysite.com/kay-fairweather

"All pain is real."

Meet Kay - Osteopath & Pelvic Health Educator in our Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Clinic, and Pain Revolution Local Pain Educator.

This October, Kay is trading the clinic for a bike seat, cycling 780km from Tweed Heads to Port Macquarie with 24 other riders - stopping in nine communities along the way, including right here in Coffs Harbour, to share modern pain science with anyone who needs it. What an amazing woman.

Her message is simple, but it changes everything for the people who hear it: chronic pain isn't a sign that something's wrong with you, or that it's "all in your head." It's your nervous system, doing its job - sometimes overprotecting, but never imaginary.

Follow along as Kay trains for the ride and shares what she's learned along the way.
