🤍 You’ve had your baby… but what about YOUR recovery?
Pregnancy and birth place significant demands on your body, whether you’ve had a vaginal birth or caesarean section. Your recovery deserves attention too!
A postnatal pelvic health physiotherapy check is about much more than pelvic floor exercises. It helps us understand how your body is recovering and develop a plan to get you back to the activities you love. 💗
🌸 WHAT’S INCLUDED?
✨ Pelvic floor assessment
We assess strength, endurance, coordination and relaxation, and discuss symptoms such as bladder or bowel leakage, heaviness, prolapse concerns and pain. An internal assessment may be offered when appropriate, but is always optional and based on your consent.
✨ Abdominal rehabilitation
We assess abdominal separation (diastasis recti), abdominal wall function and strength. You’ll receive practical, individualised exercises to rebuild capacity and confidence with movement.
✨ Return-to-exercise plan
Ready for Pilates, the gym, lifting weights or running? We assess your symptoms, strength and movement capacity, then guide a gradual return based on your goals—not just the number of weeks since birth.
✨ Prevention and long-term pelvic health
Pregnancy and childbirth can increase the risk of pelvic floor dysfunction. Early identification, education and targeted pelvic floor muscle training can help prevent or improve urinary leakage and support long-term pelvic health.
✨ Birth and scar recovery
We can assess perineal or caesarean scars, healing, discomfort and other concerns following birth.
🌿 WHEN SHOULD YOU BOOK?
Around 6 weeks postpartum is a common time for an assessment, but care can begin earlier when needed. And it’s never too late—whether you’re 6 weeks or 6 years postnatal!
Your 6-week medical check is important, but it doesn’t always include a detailed assessment of pelvic floor function, abdominal recovery or readiness for impact exercise.
💗 Your recovery deserves an individualised plan—not just a green light to exercise.
